I like to really test stuff so I shot a short recently called Ice Dreams that is nearing completion with all Samyang lenses. Ive been a little busy so its been held up but heres a still. Will most more soon and the final short.

The piece itself is a little bit sliding doors / how your choices effect your life and in this case its drug related. There's a strong undertone of manipulation as well.

UPDATE: Now you can watch the completed piece below... for a week anyway. I made a lot of choices doing this that I wouldnt normally as in I tried to step outside myself a little and experiment with different things. Nothing groundbreaking. Just the way I used light and composition / type of story I usually do etc. In addition to designed the shots / lighting to take advantage of the flaws in the Samyang lens range.

There is some simulated drug use as well as offensive language - if these things bother you I recommend not to watch.

Looking great so far, keep us posted!
Any more info on the techie site coming? Which Samyangs, Custom Profies...?
One thing: His hair and her left side in the frame (shoulder, eyebrow) seem to have tipped to the green side, that`s AFTER grading and part of the look, right?

Ive actually regraded her side. Ill pop new version up soonish. His side is done.

This shot was on 85mm @ T2. I'll say this about the 85, the min. focal distance can be a pain in the A**.

Shot with Canon Log with -7 sharpness.

You'll be even better off (or worse off) with a Zeiss ZE 100mm Makro, it's twice as expensive again :P

Great project there.

Hit a cord with me personally.
My best friend growing up had a roommate (that we went to high school with) and he is a meth user. Never understood why my buddy took him in. One night while my buddy was returning from Vegas he arrived home to a street filled with police cars. While he was away the meth head had brought home another mutual female friend to "party". She had never done hard drugs before and the meth head talked her into trying it. I'm gonna assume things were said in the sorts of "I like you" and "come on, try it for me". The official story goes by police account from the meth head that she tried it and didn't feel so so good and went into the bathroom. He said she was in there an unusual amount of time then heard a thump sound. He went to the door and asked if she was OK and got no response. He broke the door in to find her with her pants around her ankles which supposedly caused her to lose balance and fall head first on the the wash tub thus breaking her neck.

Not sure I subscribe to the official story. But it couldn't be proved that there was foul play. In either case, my friend is still deceased and for a stupid reason. She was only 18.

Powerful short, Noel. It got me. Gave me the willies when I saw the pipe and the guy trying to bring her in to his world....

I think this short proves to me that it's not the camera, the lighting, the lens, the codec. It's the power of story that trumps the technicals.

Noel,
good job, how did you grade it? C log, I switched it off, now keep thinking about using it, have you done any of Noise removal?
thanks!

Hey noel, looks great! What did u use for.sound set up. Amazing sound as well.

Cheers mate. Pretty simple sound set up, however applied the basic principle of its not almost in frame then its too far away. Used a Sanken CS3-e straight to cam. I monitored from the camera itself with my cam op, well... being a cam op (great young guy by the way whom I let steer this time, demo'd what I wanted in movement and he did a great job I thought).

Thank you Dusty appreciate the time.

This was somewhat inspired by the faces of meth video from youtube. I was surprised at the physical changes so did a little research - which led me to this.

I shoot everything in Canon Log. Its one of the best features of the C300 as its designed for the sensor. Noise removal? Whats that? :P No, none at all.
