C300: C300 mkiii RF Mount Coming?

Has anyone heard anything about Canon releasing an RF mount for the C300 mkiii and the C500 mkii? I can't understand why they haven't offered this already. It should be easy enough to do right?

Have I missed anything coming from Canon?

Thanks everyone.

Yeah but they have interchangeable mounts. Why in the hell wouldn't they make an RF mount for these two cameras? It would sell well wouldn't it?

Yeah, they would sell well - but a corporation's main goal is profit and if they skipped straight to the RF cameras, they would make less of it.

They milk the EF systems and then trickle out the RF ones (while they continue already making something even better than those). And round and round.

That's the attitude that will push more and more of their loyal customers to Sony.

I hope you are wrong but the fact that it doesn't exist seems to indicate that you aren't.

It's just business...Sony has their own way of running things.

And if it's not corporate, maybe they just sincerely don't want their first major RF cinema cameras (there's only the C70) to be based on EF models.

Like the 5D and its history could have easily been what the R5 is in a Mark V, but instead it's the R5 (they created a new model for the RF mount).

Yeah, but the 5d example points to the fact that they are trying to encourage transition to the RF glass. So wouldn't an RF mount help in that regard? Wouldn't it be a good business move to help sell RF glass? I have to think there is more margin in glass than the camera bodies.

Not understanding this at all.

Well, you don't start a successful transition with a $11K and $16K camera that only the 1% purchases! lol

The R5 and R6 were two of their most successful cameras in the history of the company. And the C70 is currently a top-seller.

You're in a very small percentage who is asking for a RF C300 or C500...people are happy with their EF versions.

They are easing us in.

Does anybody actually use the RF lenses for video? I thought most people were just adapting EF.

I briefly owned the RF 24 - 105 and found the IS to be worse than the 24 - 105 EF. The IS feels jumpy and not smooth and fluid like the EF model. The other issue I noticed is that the lens flares had a jumpy look to them, similar to warp stabilizing a clip with lens flares. (This maybe needs to be test further, but I have seen this issue with other C70 footage on YouTube.) The control ring also makes the lens difficult to work with. (In my opinion.) I would rather have one large focus ring.

Edit:

Found an example of the jumpy lens flares. I queued it up below. There must be an internal piece of glass that moves around, because in the later sections the image is steady, but the lens flares are not. Of course I didn't do any scientific tests, but from my initial tests, this is something I noticed.

There was a rumor on CanonRumors that a RF mount would come for those two models, but it wasn't mentioned again unfortunately. I bought the C500 MkII, but expected that Canon would offer some maintenance of firmware and hardware over time, for example I haven't found a way to put Digital Image Stabilization to a user assignable button and some other room for improvement. Currently I feel like Canon neglects those two models and this is a little disappointing. I switched over from Sony because of the ability to record RAW internally, but feel like Sony has provided much better support especially with firmware updates.

I also own an R5, but I withhold investing into RF glass because I am not able to use it on the C500 MkII. An interchangeable mount would result in me investing in several RF primes, so Canon is not getting this revenue until they offer the RF mount also for the C500 MkII.

Speaking of, do we think we'll see canon cine zooms like the 25-250 in RF mount?

I wonder if they'll have to come out with an extremely strong version of the EF/RF adapter as well..

Some think the cinema products are merely a hobby for them so who knows.

I thought the Sumire lineup was a head-scratcher this late in the EF game, but they like to follow through with many of their projects.

But I feel like with AF taking over for so many productions on this kind of level, most RF cines would be a waste of resources, but maybe it's not that involved in slapping a RF mount on their current cine offerings.

I like where Sony's headed with their cinema glass...

At least the 25-250 would be an AF lens, but a RF version would only be useful if they did indeed keep at least one of their sensors S35 (or have crop modes). Or people with C70s can have at it.

You'd think they'll still need one all in one workhorse type lens in RF but if I owned one in EF I would be adapting for the next 30 years!

Which sony lenses? You mean because they're good for AF and MF?

Right now only the new-ish 16-35mm, and pretty much, yeah - but that won't apply to true hardcore manual glass people.

As I was looking for the link to the lens above, I came across these old horses...haven't seen them in a while:

Oh yeah I remember there were two versions a long time ago, they were one of the cheapest ways to own PL glass.

I'd personally be sticking with the sigma 18-35 @ f/1.8 with lens gear minus extra bells and whistles but it's cool sony is providing that as an option. I'm sure the AF performance is nice.

A while ago Canon Rumors were speculating about C50 and C90 to bracket the already released C70. Now, boom, a whole new lineup.

IMO, this was all because R5 knocked a lot of chess pieces off the board. Sony responded with A1, and Nikon and Panasonic will have to respond with their own 8K mirrorless. And so the spec war is heating up again. And C300 MKIII is the view from the rear window.

If Sigma had a full-frame version of that lens at the same speed (unheard of), everyone would be sticking with it, lol.
