C300: c300 mkii with DJI RS 2?

Yeah. That's gonna be painful. I tried my C300 Mark III on my RS2 just for fun and it SUCKED to use.

How were the motors handling? If good, there’s still the option of tilta ring with easy/ready rig for a cheaper ronin 2, performance pending. I’d probably prefer a cheaper, used c200b than a full price c70.

C300 MKII on a one handed gimbal? Are you a masochist or something? ;-)

was just thinking it might be a good way to build up my arms muscle as I was filming :-) but all aside, what would work with the C300 Mkii without having to invest in a full body stabilizer

I *think* the gimbal can handle the weight. I think their question is if you'll want to carry it.

You could simply get a dual handle grip for the unit or a ring grip. You could get a steadimate-s which would transfer the weight to your core, but I don't know if that's what you mean by a full-body stabilizer. I think that people who fly heavy gimbal rigs for long durations usually seek to transfer that weight off their arms.

I just bought a smallrig sidehandle for my Ronin-S that attaches to the bottom of the battery grip. I think that a dual handle (2 side handles) is probably best, but i still need to access the unit controls. I got it mostly for added stability on close-up shots, but I think it will also help distribute the weight of heavy loads across both arms as well. I bet i could fly a C300mk2 on it just fine for short durations.

It has a 14.3lb load capacity, even higher than the Ronin-S. It doesn't look like it has any clearance issues in the back. They picture it at b&h rigged with a Canon C-series camera and a RED.

But the larger issue that everyone raised still remains - do you want to carry that much weight on a single-grip gimbal for an extended period of time?

My guess is that either rig will work with the c300mk2. The crane 3s pro would probably work more easily or at least with a greater range of lenses and accessories

any thoughts on the CRANE 3S Pro?

I've used the Crane 3S with my Fs5 and it gets tiring *very* quickly. Holding all that weight out in front of you is just awkward. It works fine once you get the camera balanced (a bit tricky, but gets easier as you practice) but I don't think I'd want to hold it for a shot longer than 3-4 minutes. And after a full day of using it I was pretty wiped (and I consider myself relatively strong).

The issue with holding a gimbal out in front of you with one arm is it's a shoulder lateral workout. It doesn't matter if one can bench press 405lbs as those muscles (mostly deltoids) can only take so much.

OT but there's a cool scene in the Punisher from 2004 in which one of Howard Saint's (Travolta) sons gets stuck in his office under debris from an explosion, and the Punisher says, "You look like a strong kid, you must workout..." and proceeds to describe the difficulty of holding an 8lb object out in front of you for an extended period of time (which are the same shoulder muscles that hold the gimbal).

Which is also why I find it easier to fly a Ronin-S or other pistol grip gimbal than an under slung gimbal like the regular ronin. You have to hold the Ronin up a lot higher to achieve the same camera level. Great workout, but it'll make you question your career choices.

Some people hold the gimbal low and close to the body, which is good for stability and endurance but obviously just a single camera height.

If I were worried about endurance shooting, I would definitely get a steadimate-s or other support rig. Even with just my A7SIII and a light wide-angle, focus motor and 7" monitor, my arms get tired after about 2 hours of near-continuous operating. I could operate longer, but my performance (stability) would suffer. I would definitely get a support rig if I regularly had to fly longer than that

Whereas on a wedding shoot I might operate 3-4 hours of Ronin-S with heavier lenses but it's no sweat because it's intermittent. I would totally consider a C300mk2 on that rig for occasional scenic wides or adding a little flavor to the b-roll. Beyond that it would suck without transferring the weight off your arms

The motors were fine. My arms were not.

Unfortunately, the Steadimate S does not work with the RS2, that the OP was asking about. Whether Tiffen comes out with a new gimbal that can attach to the RS2 is anyones guess. Especially since Tilta has (coming) a Trinity type set-up for it.

Well an easyrig or tilta armor man or something. But I think those are the "full body supports" he's trying to avoid, understandably

Tilta's mini Trinity has been pushed from Nov 2020 to Jan 2021.

There is also digitalfoto Thanos Pro II and Trinipod, if you have vest already.

Just saw that while checking their daily specials. Kind of crazy. The S is still a good and capable gimbal. And I actually prefer the Sport Mode of the S over the RS 2. But otherwise the 2 is superior in almost every other way.

Did you ever decide if the 2 produces smoother footage? What camera do you use on it anyway?
