We’re told again that the upcoming Canon EOS C300 Mark II will be 4K along with a host of other upgrades. You can expect the C300 Mark II to be a bigger update than the EOS C100 Mark II was to its predecessor. We’re also told it’s going to be priced very aggressively, to better compete with Sony’s FS7 which is $7999 USD.

Expect the Canon EOS C300 Mark II to be announced before NAB 2015 in April.
Canonrumors.com aren't really big on Cinema EOS, but when they put this information out there I expect it to be a solid source.

4k, a host of other upgrades, bigger update than C100 and aggressively priced. Announced before NAB.

I think that will be the camera to follow for Canon oriented film makers.

Was pretty much set on getting the c100 mkii. But, this definitely makes me think twice. Andree, what do you believe the price will be?

Andree, what do you believe the price will be?

Your guess is as good as mine. I don't think Canon will match Sony on price and prior to this I had zero hope that it would come in under 10k. But $9995 is major barrier. Maybe they are aiming for that?

But knowing Canon, aggressively priced can simply mean "look, here's the C300 mkII. We have upgraded the C300 in several ways and we are still introducing it at a price lower than the original C300 price".

Canon tend to say stuff like that and still keep a straight face. And the funny thing is, after their products get ridiculed by spec hunters they often come out real close to the top (if not at the top) for real world production value.

I'm thinking Cfast, too. I'd want at least 10-bit if not 12. Frame rates - at least 120 fps in 1080, 60 in 4k.

Dual-pixel is probably a given at this point but it would nice if it's not limited to the center.

Price - $8k would be great but I'm hoping it will come in at no more than $10k.

Exciting for sure. I really have not considered any of the recent camera releases because I am fairly excited about this camera. I personally really enjoy the quality of image and easy workflow of the C300.

For the most part, when the C300/C100 came out, I was shooting mostly on RED. Honestly, I love RED...but the C series makes it so amazingly easy (and light weight) to capture a stunning looking footage...I sold my RED cam and really have not had any reservations. When working and considering that time equates to the budget of a project...clients are very happy with the quality of image and the quick turn around. I'm sure the C300 II will be a most welcome upgrade.

This is going to be a great camera for sure.

I just want 4K, 10 bit at 120Fps. It would be a winner for me and I would imagine many others. 1080P at 240 would be killer as well. I just really want usable 4K from a professional sensor.

Nice to speculate. I think it will be a natural progression for C100 shooters wanting to go higher, just as the C100 was a natural progression for Canon DSLR shooters. My wish list:
The C500 can do 2K/1080p at 12bit 444, if the C300 MKII can achieve that without an external recorder, coupled with a decent 4K implementation (I'd be cool with 60fps 422 10bit), and I would sell my C100 and I honestly think it would be my camera body for the next 5+ years ... the glorious end to camera body upgrades (asuming 8K broadcasts starting in 2020).

I have predicted $10,000 on some other thread and will stick to it.

As to what one gets for that - I would expect 10-bit, 4K internal to SDXC cards (new ones are very fast) at ~ 100 Mbps in HEVC, C-Log. They have to beat FS7 on the value chart, what with being a later arrival by some 10 months or so.

The key for them will be having the internal equivalent of FS7+External recorder like Q7 or Shogun. This will be, if the rumors are correct, their high end and yet "affordable" camera. C500 replacement will be competing for the Alexa II crown with, presumably, an FF 6K sensor and so on at a much higher price point or ~ $25,000-$30,000.

$16K would be a reasonable price if it had all of the above. I think it may be a little lower though. The c100 mkii didn't come in at the original price of the c100. It came in at the current c100 price. Hopefully, that is why they lowered their price, so they could just swap out the new gear. I hope.

The C100 MK II is listed in Australia as $700 more than I paid for my C100 OG (early adopter), I'm assuming due to exchange rate, which doesn't bode well for the C300 MK II here.

Do we really think that the c300mkii will be 10k or under?????
They'll have to compete with FS7 and rumors have them doing just that.

IMO, a $15,000 C300 MK II won't get off to a hot start, as FS7 is already a big seller and there will be more 4K cameras to come from the various manufacturers in and around the $5,000 mark.

Historically, canon has never announced anything big on NAB.
Now that they've began to narrow down their product offerings, they might though.

Personally, I never understood why they have avoided it recently, as plenty of their competitors have been getting a lot of buzz from the NAB's. To me, it seems like a gimme - free pub, enjoy it as it comes.
