C300: C300 Mk III Coming Soon

Canon Rumors think C500 MKII will be either teased or ... something ... at the NAB without a release date. The specs are, obviously, unknown, even if the working 8K prototype has indeed been shown at the various expos. IMO, 8K-for-the-masses is two years away. This is more likely to be a somewhat incremental step to about 24 MPX/6K s35, providing an oversampled 4K (heck, Sony does this for $1,000!). In either case, it'll probably be more than sufficient for the decades ahead in terms of the TV technology available for personal entertainment.

Which $1,000 sony camera oversamples? I was under the impression it was all just line skipping.
A6300 (shipping in three weeks) from a 20 MPX (out of 24 MPX) sensor, A7RII from 15 MPX s35 crop off a 42 MPX full frame and, on the pro level, F65 from a full s35 sensor.

A6300 - $999

A7RII - $3,198 (- $200 gift card, etc)

I love my C100 but the FS7 has completely won me over as my Acam. Even if the C300II dropped $5k in price, I wouldn't make the switch at this point.

I would love to see a C100III w/AF-tracking, touchscreen and 4k to compete w/the FS5. Would be very competitive, especially if they offered 10-bit color.

I'm very curious what sales of the C300II have been. Anybody know?

that stuff about the c100m3 youre just pulling out of your butts right? was looking at a friends c100m1 package but wait if it were worth it to do so

If the timing of the C100 Mark I and Mark II release dates are anything to go by, there will be a C100 Mark III available by the end of the year. They won't take dual pixel out (it's in the Mark II), so you can count on that being in there and possibly improved.

And some speculation on my part: I don't believe that there will be any new professional cinema cameras introduced that are limited to 1080P in 2016.

But the Mark I is still a great camera at a very low price point and it will easily pay for itself by the time the Mark III is available.

Not with me! I don't shoot super often (often enough that renting is starting to annoy me, not often enough to pay off a cam in six months) so I gotta be real choosy. Yeah, I would assume the m3 would have 4k and the AF upgrade.

Just keep in mind that you can pick up a used C100 Mark I body for around $2000 these days. A 4K Mark III would likely be in the $6000-$8000 range.

Yikes? You think THAT much? I was guessing 5000-5500. I guess no one knows. If it even happens. Yeah, that might still be too rich for my blood.

Canon always sell at a premium with their video line. The C100 mk1 was $6500 when released. I'd imagine priced at the FS7 but under spec in comparison only. Image wise will be on people's preference.

We will soon find out about the C500....Canon do surprise with the timing of their announcements....I suppose if you see a drop in price of the C100 Mark II then that will be an indicator.

.... Expect to see a C100 MK3 ......

Really hope your right...

Like I said in previous posts..we are the kind of people Canon should be worried about.....you have made the switch and are not going to switch back easily..

Canon really have to get the next few Cameras right and wow us to keep our custom..

Definitely. I was only replying to the post above mine about pricing of the C100 mk3 whenever it's released.

If it's that high then I'm out. A friend /colleague was pointing out that they don't have anything to compete with the FS5. When I mentioned the C300m2, he said "that competes with the FS7 (although way to high a price compared to it, in relation to offered features)", so I would think the the C100m3 would be the FS5 competitor, hopefully similarly priced. Maybe I'm crazy/wrong. Anyway, guess we'll know in a few months.

Well, if one thinks that the B&H ranking is fairly representational and reasonable since they include even the much lower priced GH4 and A7SII/RII, C300 MKII is #20, which is not that bad because it is the highest priced camera on that first bestseller page.

If one cuts off anything below $4,000, it's the 10th most popular package. If one includes bodies only within the same financial range, with the exception of the fixed lens DVX200, then it's 6th best (there are a lot of C100 and FS5/7 packages that include some sort of a lens). Considering that there are a lot of corporate, off-retail orders for MKII, it's not a bad performance. Having said that, A7RII, A7S, A7SII, FS7 and FS5 have all been home runs for Sony and they obviously eat a lot of Canon sales in the sub-$20,000 category.

...they don't have anything to compete with the FS5.

The FS5 to me looks like it was purposely designed to be a direct competitor to the C100.

Because it came out part way through the C100 MKIIs life cycle it will of course have a better spec. The C100 is now a 3 year old design (with some great tweaks for MKII). The FS5 is brand spanking new. There's no doubting though that the FS5 is meant to go head to head with the C100 range, however the C100 MKIII will be it's true "direct" competitor.

There's a few things you can count on for the C100 MKIII, based on the XC-10, C300 MKII and 1DXMKII releases and everything else Canon has done:

1. It WILL have 4K,
2. Image quality WILL be better than the FS5,
3. It will NOT have as good high frame rates as the FS5,
4. It WILL be more expensive than the FS5,
5. It WILL be an awesome upgrade for current C100 users (especially MKI),
6. It will NOT (probably) call back those who jumped to the Sony FS5. They'll still think it is under spec'd for the price cause they'll only look at the lack of frame rates. It's what plants crave. If you go FS5 you probably won't regret it when the C100 MKIII comes around, especially if it's making you $$.

Personally I think the C100 MKII is approaching being my perfect camera, but adding good 4K and a better HD codec would pretty much make the C100 MKIII my perfect camera until next decade. No need to jump on the Sony bandwagon.
