C300: C300 Mk III Coming Soon

Glad to see my thread getting to 16 pages and kept calm. :)

AAAARGH!!!!!!

... FS7 ...there is no denying the popularity or dominance that camera currently has over the market.

I've said it before but I think the C300MKIIs biggest downfall (besides no 4K 60!) is that everyone compares it to the FS7.

Canon just has too ridiculously big a gap between the C100 MKII and C300 MKII.

They can't fill it because whatever they put there will not compare favourably with the FS7.

They can't not fill it because the FS7 will eat them alive.

They can't rely on the C100 MKIII because that will be seen as coming up against the FS5.

I hate ranting 'cause I love my C100 and could easily and happily use it for a long time yet... it's getting a bit love/hate with Canon though lol

Everyone compares it to the Fs7 because they are very comparable and the FS7 is much cheaper with a bigger feature set in many ways and a great image with Sony's new colour science. I found it funny on launch of the C300II they went out of their way to never mention the FS7. They were trying to position it like an Alexa but the reality is that the C300II would end up competing for the same market space as the Fs7 (on market a year before C300II) or F5 (on market over 2yrs) which were also available cheaper. When the first reviews came out and the results showed it had comparable DR to the FS7 and some reviewers finding that Clog2 was very 'Sony Like' as one reviewer put it and different form the beloved Clog everyone loved. The cameras are comparable despite Canons own perceptions.

No I'm not kidding. Use both cameras almost on a daily basis. The C300MKII is superior in almost every way and given the choice I choose the C300MKII every time I can. What's to be kidding about having an informed opinion based on experience?

The cameras are very similar in features. I don't need to list them, since you use them every day. Saying they are "not in the same ballpark" is extrapolating your singular experience to make a hyperbolic value judgment on those who do find them similar enough to compare.

Lots of folks here have engaged in conversation about making a decision between these two cameras. Also, I like them both. Why does one have to win?

Best camera for the job man. Each camera has it's own set of pros and cons. I don't need to get into them. They've been discussed to death. Just silly to say they're not comparable just bc you have a preference.

Why does one have to win? Because one is clearly better. Hope that aint too much of a hyperbolic judgment for you man.

Better is an extremely subjective term in this instance. As I sit here and type this, we are green lit for pre-production regarding a spot for the olympics. One of the first requirements within the project brief is "High speed footage requirements - 4k/60fps(or higher)", which disqualifies the c300 immediately. Does that make it better? Not for this job :) Keep in mind I do not own either of them, but I would agree with others in the sense that I consider them "similar". Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but denying that these cameras are similar, makes you seem like you have a case of buyers remorse or camera envy.

I shot sidelines @ the last Super Bowl and counted at least 2 dozen fs7's(no one was more surprised than me). Coincidently the two most popular production companies I shoot for in FL and GA have also migrated from c300's to fs7's. None of this is meant to imply that the the c300 is worse or better, it is simply what I have seen with my own two eyes within fields that were previously, dominated by the c300.

You finish off your post by pointing out simply what you have seen with your own two eyes which is exactly what I am doing but according to you I have a case of buyers remorse or camera envy. Just an amazingly arrogant statement. How can I have a case of buyers envy when I own both frigg'n cameras? I will once again repeat MY opinion... I shoot every single day with both the FS7 and the C300MKII - both of which I bloody well own - I prefer the image out of the C300MKII. I prefer the image out of the C300MKII by a long, long way - Given a choice, I would prefer to shoot on the C300MKII. Is that ok? Guess not for some. Funny how the negativity towards the C300MKII is from people who don't own the camera. Go figure.

It's a fast changing landscape out there. A hot camera of yesterday can quickly become a .. well, a hot camera of yesterday. And today, there's a different champ.

For a lot of companies, the cost difference between the two models can also be a very important factor.

Not speaking for others but, to me, what was said above was that shooting any sort of action - sports included - means that a high frame rate is a must. C300MKII doesn't have it and so it's not on the wanted list. It's as simple as that.

I have also shot sports for a international sports broadcaster at 1080 @24p with the old C300 Mark I

Different projects have different requirements. No point in arguing that whatever is the experience of one person has to be the absolute and only truth.

One guy owns both the FS7 and C300 II and likes the C300 II image better. Why to tell him that he is mistaken? Another guy rents based on his requirements and the project says 4K 60p. So he can't rent the C300 II. So horses for courses and one uses what is required by the project. I am fine till this point.

However, when one says that he finds a lot of FS7s so he believes that FS7 has to be better. It is like saying there are more samsung 100 usd phone users than iphone users so the cheap samsung has to be better than iphone 6s. That is like stretching the truth a bit more.

Ask any marketing person and he/she will say that one product can technically replace the other without being similar. When the felt need is to have a beverage you can either use tea or coffee. For those kind of crowd whose need is like the people who want to have some beverage, either a cheaper FS7 or a C300II would suffice. Those with a bit more specific needs will choose differently.

+1

Oh, gosh...I hope so.

If I were an owner, I would be absolutely outraged the 1DX will have it and the 300 doesn't. Don't care if it's new technology and a different product, etc.

C300 Mark II deserves 4K/60P.
