C300: C300 Mark II or Sony FS7? Need help to pick one out, Will be buying either one

Very interested in the C300 mk2 but bought an FS7 to hold me over. Once the Canon is out I'll decide whether to opt in, or not.

Not sure how well the FS7 is doing in LA, but every time I'm at Abel Cine I see at least one, sometimes several, being sold. And Errol Morris just shot a documentary on two F55s, seven FS7s (without extension backs), & a bucket full of GoPros. So it seems the FS7 is being used on many levels of production.

Best,
Bern

PS: I've posted this info in the F55/F5/FS7 forum so apologies to those who have already read it.

PSS: Had a few cocktails one night, & put a deposit down on an Ursa Mini, & EVF. Woke up the next morning, had some coffee, & bought the FS7.

Couple of interesting items from Cine Gear LA video:

1. List price now: $17,000.

2. Now saying October release.

Then you might get the C500 & Q7 deal for 17,999.... you can get it now... just wondering when the Q7 will do 4k pro res with the C500... they say its coming...

thanks John went on their site and it says its coming.... lol not long after posting this... a friend emailed and said he knew of a used one for like 13k or less... so that would be 15,300.... or around there...

I'd assume the guy misspoke on the price. It's still listed on B&H at $15,999.

As to ETA - I'd assume he did not misspeak.

Could it be interpreted as list price (17000) vs. street price (15999)? I think when they announced it the list price was something like $20K?

Hmm, well if the list turns out to be $17k that would make street significantly lower than the $15,999. I've got one pre-ordered from EVS here in LA and they tell me they're expecting delivery first week of September. I certainly hope they deliver on time and I'll cross my fingers for that lower price, though I doubt that.

What matters here is the price Canon charges the retailers, aka the wholesale price. And it doesn't look like Canon will be discounting any time soon.

I doubt the lower (or higher) price. As to the actual release, the pre-orders will have to be filled up before the camera is available in stores on the walk-in basis. My hunch is that there are a lot of corporate/volume packages for this camera that are outside of the normal retail distribution channels and that's where the first batch or two will go, with the retail pre-orders accommodated next.

I wouldn't read too much into it. The guy just made a mistake. Its $16K street I'm sure. He said list...which would imply its about 30% less for the street MAP. I'm sure thats not correct.

Canon is not known for lowering their prices on delivery.

A canon rep I spoke to a month or so ago said he expected street price of around £10k +vat when the camera shipped.

That is the point he was making. The ideal settings for great video are not the same as the ideal settings for great pictures.

Exactly. I should have been more direct rather than being a jerk. If you intend to pull stills, don't shoot at 48 f/s. A 180 degree shutter angle is a choice. A video camera is not a film camera.
