C300: C300 hard case

:Drogar-Shock(DBG): $595?? You think everyone is a millionaire or something??? :Drogar-Sick(DBG):

This response seems to be indicative of the attitude/expectations of a large portion of the people on this board. TV/movie production equipment and the support gear associated with it is not cheap. It never has been. It's kind of like racing. It takes money if you want to do it right and at more than just the entry level.

Well, actually now, production gear is more affordable than ever, relatively speaking. And the cost of the camera is only a small portion of an equipment package. $595 for a custom protection/transportation solution for a $14K camera isn't to bad. There is a cost associated with someone designing and engineering the custom inserts. And these things aren't being produced in the quantities of 10's or 100's of thousands(or more) of copies that consumer products are.

But back to the case questions… I don't have mine in a hard case. I'm usually using a Petrol Deca Accessories Large rolling bag. I can fit my C300 body, Redrock cage, Alphatron VF, 5x Canon Cine Primes and a ton of gear in the compartments in the bottom(FF, whips, shoulder mount, batts, etc.). Unfortunately it looks like B&H raised the price. They were under $300 when I bought mine last year, now they're over $400. I ran across another custom case company at NAB, Jason Cases, that does hard cases with custom inserts and they will do them for your existing cases as well, and you don't have to buy the case and insert together from them.

One of the reasons I haven't bought these hard cases is the weight. It seems Pelican is going to launch a lightweight version of their hard cases. Then it will be easier to carry all these to a production.

Thermodyne. If they don't stock it, they'll make it. Great people too and all of their cases come with custom foam. They'll be doing a case for my hexacopter. Their prices are surprisingly reasonable too.
