Canon Press Release

I'm so happy we will get this firmware update. I liked the feature with the C100 and now we will have it with the C300 and C500. Also a couple of other goodies added.

Automatic Functions (EOS C300) and New Recording Mode (EOS C300/EOS C300 PL)
A new firmware upgrade for the Cinema EOS C300 Digital Camera adds Push Auto Iris and One-Shot Autofocus (AF), two outstanding automatic functions incorporated in the Cinema EOS C100 Digital Camera (released in November 2012). These functions enable users to automatically adjust lens aperture and focusing through a simple one-touch operation, which can be particularly useful for cinematographers and videographers shooting without the support of an assistant. In addition, a firmware upgrade for the Cinema EOS C300 and Cinema EOS C300 PL Digital Cameras adds a 1,440 x 1,080 pixel recording mode at 35Mbps, a resolution widely used in terrestrial digital television broadcasting. This new mode will expand the versatility of the XF codec and can be a useful addition for broadcast applications where the reduced bandwidth requires less transmission time while still maintaining a high level of image quality.

Shifting Display Location during Magnified Focus Assist (EOS C100, EOS C300/EOS C300 PL, EOS C500/EOS C500 PL)

Firmware upgrades for the EOS C500 and EOS C500 PL, EOS C300, EOS C300 PL, and EOS C100 Digital Camera models enable the Magnified Focus Assist function's magnified view area within the viewfinder and LCD monitor to be shifted to locations other than the center of the screen, allowing users to confirm focus across the entire display area.

bullet in a head!

if say true i was hoping for some crazy 1080 60p over hdmi or something like that.....

I'm surprised there aren't more people jumping on this thread to comment - this is great news!! Yeah - a little late and still more wait, but I'll take it.

I wish Canon is doing a RECALL for all C100s, send them back to factory, re-bake 1080-60p, SDI, and 422 , built-in ND to 10 stop, for free. and outputs 2k raw

lol that would be the greatest product recall in history - sending your C100 in and getting a completely different camera worth twice the price in return.

well. not really, FS700 can do a similar thing (kind of) at this price, so I think a C100 with all these features should worth less than 10k.

seariously, I believe Canon does have the resources and ability to do these, But they just wanna make sales and let the company grow in the long run, instead of a mass sale in short run

you know, they just feed you a single piece of Rice at a time, keep you away from starvation, never giving you a full bowl of it.

we are fishes in the lake ,they are luring us. MothXXX Fxxx Canon

thats why I dont give a F to these small firmware updates, its like you feel itchy on your back, but you just cant reach it. F!

Its not the camera, its you. if you can't make something good on canon then no camera, spec, or feature that will help you.

Well....the problem I have is: they aim this at SONY and the market in general and not at the customers they already have.

SONY won´t sell tons of F5s until they prove their firmware will do what´s promised. Only then will Canon give us a minor upgrade to pretend development of these cameras. An upgrade with consumer features (who needs one-button auto-IRIS/Focus on a C300PL?).
But hey, we take what we get, would just be nice to get more needed features (like waveform in the EVF)....

It speaks volumes about canon that they cant take a bit of firmware that is already embodied in the C100 and push it out to the 300 and 500 models in less than 6 months. Why did they announce this piddling firmware update now? They can't show up at NAB empty handed , so might as well announce this piddling firmware update now, 6 months in advance so there is at least some thing to talk about at NAB....

I suspect like most products that once it is released there is only a small team working on patches and updates compared to the initial development. It will just be Ken-san and Yoshi-san beavering away in a couple of cubicles. But the announcement keeps us interested going forward.

Just throwing this out there but I'd guess considering the age of the C300 that this will be the last major firmware upgrade in it's lifetime and probably too for the C100 as it's a lower spec'd camera and not likely to be on Canons radar for new functions. There's more likely to be a C50, C200, C300 MK II or C400 filling in the gaps and adding new features.
