C300/500 price drop

The recording system it uses doesn't have provision for 60p, and it's based on the Digic DV III chip which, if I'm not mistaken, doesn't do 60p either. I don't think the hardware is there to provide 1080/60p.

But again, I'm speculating, I don't know this for an absolute fact.
It's the same chip as the C500. The C500 can knock out 120fps. One issue with higher frame rates on the C300 might be heat, but I'd wager it is more than capable of doing 1080/60p.

I would prefer more capability than a price drop. So if C300 gets 1080 at 60p or higher through a firmware upgrade, then I would prefer it over a price drop. If both happens, then it would be fantastic.

I already own a C300 so I don't want a price drop:-) Actually the price has already dropped by £1500 in 8 months. I bought my C300 from CVP last March for £11929 & their current price is £10380 (all prices including 20% VAT) so the resale value of my camera has also reduced by at least the same amount. I would like more functionality but never mind 1080@60p I would just like to be able to adjust aperture with one wheel & ISO with the other. At present both wheels adjust aperture.

reaally? CVP has raised their price on the C100 to now match US levels.
As the C100 isn't even shipping yet then by definition there cannot yet be a competitive market so all the prices for pre-order are a bit suspect. However I don't recall the CVP price with tax being any lower than the current £4554 (£3795 without tax). H Preston have it listed at £4439 including tax (£3699 without tax).

It was selling for approx $350 less than list a few weeks ago at CVP, and now it is list. valid pricing since you could place an order at that price.

I think that you must be confusing the price with & without VAT (EU sales tax - the UK rate is 20%). According to CVP they are selling at 16% less than list. The price including 20% VAT is £4554 whereas the list price without tax is £4500

The CVP web page currently says:-
Our Price: £3,795.00 + VAT (£4,554.00 inc VAT)
List Price: £4,500.00 + VAT (£5,400.00 inc VAT) Saving: £846.00 (16%)

Incidentally the first price that CVP had on their website (valid as you could place an order) was £4162.50 excluding VAT (£5115 including VAT).

I was not making that mistake and if you want to disbelieve that is your privilege. I know this was right because My American retailer said he could not match the price. Of course, it was the export price without VAT, given in dollars.

Note that CVP have revised their pricing here in the UK, considerably, as have a number of other reputable video gear suppliers since I placed my pre-order in August (re Nigel's link to my website).

You can now order the C100 in the UK at a better price :-)

Despite its obvious/deliberately crippled shortcomings, the price it's currently offered at seems like a VERY good deal to me. If I can get that beautiful "C300 image quality" in a lighter body, with better/more egonomic placement of buttons for run-n-gun then I'm all in.

Sure, it might need an external recorder to maximise the picture quality benefit from that lovely sensor - TBD - but it looks like an ideal cam for the kind of stuff I do. Hopefully, it'll arrive soon and then we will know!

If you want to disbelieve me that's your privilege but honestly there is no conspiracy here. CVP & other retailers here in the UK have not raised their prices in fact quite the contrary the have reduced them since announcment. The price never was $350 i.e. £200 less than the current advertised price.

I hope so... though 8Bit 4:2:0 24mbps avchd? let us know what you think. Thanks.

Anyways, despite most feeling the C300 is over priced, there is no other real head on competition to the C300. Sure, the FS100/700, F3, and Scarlet can all steal sales away, but there is no other 1.) Broadcast quality internal codec + 2.) Small ergonomic form +3.) Low noise high ISO + 3.) true 1080p + 4.) long battery life + 5.) xlr audio + 6.) 12stop DR, camera out there. If a C300 is what you need, then it is you only choice.

I see the F5 as the only camera on the horizon that will compete with the C300 for the 1080p small/mid level TV/doc market. The C300 has had a years start and I know many production houses and broadcasters (at least in Canada) that have already decided on the C300.

I can't believe that no one else has bothered to nail the broadcast market with a large chip camcorder. It will have took over a year for Sony to bring out competition.
