C200: C200B more expensive than C200?

You are probably not missing anything here. It's like with most electronics when it's cheaper to buy a "pre-built" set of something rather than building it on your own. For example a 5.1 speaker system. A pre-made kit will always be cheaper than if you buy all the components by itself.

The total price for the items you put together is $7,684...so not much more.

One difference is the cable you included in your bundle is the 3.3' version and probably more expensive than the included 1.6' cable.

I would never buy the B unless you know for a fact that you will ONLY shoot it on a gimbal/Steadicam/Crane/Jib/Slider. The re-sale on one without the EVF will not be very good if you want to re-sell it while it is current.

True, that's the only one you could buy at the moment, and it didn't specify whether the LCD came with one.

I would much rather have the EVF, but I'm not sure the C200 with the EVF will fit on my Ronin MX.

I was also hoping there would be more of a price break with the 200b. I want everything but the viewfinder, for two reasons:
1. I never use mine on my c100 and I even took mine off of my C500
2. I plan on using it with my Ronin-M a ton and want the extra tilt clearance

Kind of a bummer that the 200b will end up costing the same once you buy accessories, but automatically have lower resale value.

I wish you could just take the viewfinder off like the C300/500 as I could see myself using it occasionally with autofocus doing the legwork while I focus on exposure/framing in direct sunlight situations.

I agree, Canon really should have made the EVF detachable by the user.

Not being interested in the B myself, I still can see saving 1650$ as interesting, when you really only need a dedicated gimbal/crane/crashcam for an all Canon workflow.
I guess the C200 will end up with a lot of wedding/event shooters. So that 1650$ can go straight into the gimbal purchase.
Still, the target audience just won't be that big compared to the regular C200, so small demand, high price.

I'm betting the "regular" vesrsion will out-sale the B version at least 4-to-1, if not 10-to-1. The B will probably quickly become a "special order only" item.

The C200B is aimed at complementing the C700 and fill a gap in the "ecosystem". So if you have the high end C700, then just get the C200B for specific gimbal work, crash camera work and when needed it can be used with the C700 EVF. Earlier productions used to use 5D or Go Pros for such stuff. Now, with the raw ability, the C200 will give a very good result.

I feel the C200B will be used by high end users using Alexa and RED. So you now don't need another high priced camera for specific shots as the C200B can fit the bill.

By creating the C200B Canon is sending a signal that it is going to make life easy for its users by looking after all their needs and also look at niche areas where its cameras can fit in. When a large company is trying to think differently, it is good news.

How many people will actually use the built in EVF? I've personally used mine on the 100mk2 maybe once. I feel that the c200b has more options since it doesn't have a giant rear EVF sticking out of it.

Are you going to pre-order one Sabyasachi?

I am told by Canon that the tentative date for C200 availability is August. But don't have the firm date yet as well as the India price. I buy directly from them and give the full cheque. So will wait till I know the full details.

AF is awesome, but I actually never use it. It feels weird to pay for lenses and cameras that have it, but at the same time, I like having the option, and willing to keep the expense around. just wish aperture were still accessible on the barrel, that is my main hate for modern lenses, not the addition of auto, but the lack of manual!!!

Still on track for August for C200B? I know I've asked before (2 weeks ago, lol) and you've confirmed yes, but other retailers are still telling me October (and August for C200).

You would know best...just wondering.
