C200: c200 low budget commercial

Good work Rob, I like your lighting and the shots.

Curious, was there any discussion of the talent (staff)
wearing masks on camera?

Thanks Dan. Initially the Aus government recommended not wearing masks to the general public. This was during the great TP shortage so maybe they had nowhere near enough supplies and were scared of more apocalypse style shopping? Queensland (the state) only had 6 covid-19 deaths so I'm sure there's a slightly more relaxed attitude by comparison to other areas.

BTW: good jobs, Rob. Sorry for the sidebar rant.

Hey no need for an apology, I'm always derailing threads.

and btw shoot some footage with masks now and shoot it again without if the pandemic is over.
What's the problem about this?

I like the sound of this - more shooting.

This looks cool Rob!

Slow motion was shot in 1080 or 4K?

I hope Canon releases an updated C500 II and makes it 8K.

For anyone's enjoyment/reference, here's a small project I shot/edited on the c200/CRL:

NOTES:
- Crew was me plus Gaffer.
- Lights used - 1800 HMI, 575 HMI, pair of luxli taikos.
- Moving forward, I'm going to buy a few 1/8 strength diffusion filters.

I hope Canon releases an updated C500 II and makes it 8K.

have you ever seen Canon adding significant features by a FW update?
Besides the real need of 8K it would be sth for a models placed above the C500ii
The 8K of the R5 was just a coincidence of the full sensor read out of Canon's new high
end stills camera. I can't image that they started a brainstorming
"let's build a 8K mirrorless camera!"

But what about the circulating air in the restaurant?

You (anyone) wear the mask inside, and then you later take it off as if you've passed some sort of safety test when it's time to eat, and then you sit there with your mouth opening and closing for 20-30 minutes - with some breathing through the nose more than usual - while you eat inside of a public place with a bunch of other people in the same location.

The risk is probably low but this still reminds me of washing your hands and then touching a public faucet to turn off the water.

Yep, I agree. That's why I think the masks may have some beneficial effect but I also feel as if they are "medical theater", just like we all know the TSA is security theater.
But I wear one because it's not worth the hassle in my day to day life from not wearing one. I like to be low key and fly under the radar in most situations.

Hi Rob

what was your audio setup?

cheers from Adelaide

AT4053b on a boom pole just out of shot.

Straight into the c200 for the on camera delivery. Rather than getting him to memorize the entire script or needing a teleprompter, we just got the open/close on camera. The rest was recorded as a VO into my sound devices 702 recorder.

I hadn't used the 702 in a really long time, it's still going strong.

I still have my 442 and 302 sitting on the shelf as back-ups. They can't record like my 664 and 633, but if you're just feeding straight into camera, they're rock solid.

Good job, Rob! As the others have said, it looks very professional. Are you saying that this video was produced entirely by you and a gaffer?

Thank you, doubledark, for asking about audio, because I was about to ask the same thing. The narrator's voice sounds very warm. Perhaps the guys from the Audio subforum might disagree, but to me it might just as well have been a large-diaphragm mic in a sound booth.

Thanks. No, produced by a small creative agency. I made the shot list, though had nothing to do with the script/concept.

The restaurant is on a main road so we were actually pretty close to a lot of cars. Nothing too concerning but I'm glad the music is there to take the edge off. We did the VO in the same position as the part on camera.

I don't like it when there's a big difference between the mic on camera vs. the voice over recording. It can be too distracting, especially if it goes back and forth regularly. E.g. wireless lav for talent in an OK sounding space then dedicated VO recording with a different mic in the most quiet area of the location or like you mention a sound booth. I guess it's about making a decision given the circumstances each time versus a one size fits all rule.

A long time ago I was in Sizzler in Houston and this mouse walked up this lady's leg. I don't think she even felt it.
I didn't even know they were still around. One near me closed. They tore down the building. The lot has been vacant for maybe 20 years now.
