C200: C200 Footage

Wow, it's like full on nature at your house! Love the flower shots especially, very nice. Camera settings and lenses used?

Good stuff and thanks for the details. Did you grade the shots or is that just a quick REC-709 LUT applied?

Just a real quick grade with lumetri color nothing crazy, standard blacks, contrast, saturation adjustments. I will say the 120FPS is kind of soft, softer than I expected but it's still very nice.

Hi Everyone,

I had two shoots so far with my C200, and the biggest hurdle is transcoding the raw to prores- probably since I have a slower computer (2010 macpro). It took around 9 hours to transcode around 15 minutes of raw.
Here's my very first test after taking the camera out for an hour- shot on the Canon 24 1.4 and 70-200 II- graded with a quick film covert using the C300 mark II profiles for Clog3 and Clog 2.

Come again? Sounds like something isn't working properly...

I get 17fps when transcoding on my Mac Pro 2009 to ProRes 4444 from DaVinci Resolve 14. I realise you're using Canon's software, but unless it's criminally poorly designed it shouldn't need 9 hours for 15 minutes... My test suggests a time around 22-23 minutes.

I do have a 12 core machine, but I'm not quibbling about minutes here. 9 hours is a long time.

By the way, in Resolve 14 you wouldn't have to transcode if you're OK with the in camera settings: it reads the raw files natively, but we still can't manipulate log profiles and stuff like that (last I checked, but it's in beta so..)

There's also this, it looks clean but I'm struggling to fall in love with any of the images I've seen so far.

Nothing seems to have a strong cinematic look in the same way as RED or even the BM Ursa, I like the look of my C300 MKII better but it's early days on Canon raw light I guess...

Only using Premier right now but you're probably right- could be the 32gb ram or the 1gb graphics- I've easily edited C100 and comfortably edited gh5 footage, but this raw lags.

This one looked pretty good. As speculated, when it comes to any form of Raw, it all depends on grading. An automatic Film Convert LUT is unlikely to be enough for now.

Although I ordered a C200, it wasn't for it's cinematic picture. I don't buy into "grading is everything".
Arri, Red, the F35 and with some distance some of the Blackmagics and the Kinefinitys have that certain quality to their sensors, DSP and whatever else goes on inside that cameras, that at least I associate with "digital cinema".
I liked the Canon C300 in BITWC, Blue Ruin or the latest Transparent season, but once you grade the C300 footage and you push it away from that out-of-the-box-great-look Canon is known for it just becomes "good".
This last video posted has great colours and surely enough resolution but lacks that richness I'm used from the other "cinema" labeled cameras.
Any current Canon's image is enough for an indie flick, but if hired to shoot a TVC, I would still bring in an Alexa and use my C200 for the BTS...
