What is the best strategy with audio gains? Max on G3 and minimum corresponding gain on C100?

While helpful that link does not address the Op's question which I too would like to know. What audio settings do other users of this combo find to be ideal for lav mic shooting conditions such as interviews?

I have a G2 and XF100 (somewhat similar audio-wise to C100 and G3) and in my testing have found there's actually little audio quality difference between (a)high transmitter output/low xlr input setting and (b)lower transmitter output/higher xlr setting. We hear so much that camera preamps are terrible, but on these Canons, they are not terrible, and are very possibly quieter than the wireless rig. I usually go with a mid-range setting on both.

But YMMV so I recommend a quick test to see what sounds best to you.

I use OST mics and find that I have to lower the gain on the transmitter and receiver or the sound will clip. Even if the camera or recorder levels are well below peak and the transmitter and receiver are at 0, it will still clip. You won't see it on the meter but you'll hear it on the monitor. That's why it's important to always monitor. So I usually have them both down -15 or -20. Camera or recorder is usually set to what's appropriate--i.e. voice level of the speaker, etc.

I would not suggest going max on the G3 receiver. I may be wrong as I don't know exactly how the G3 receiver amp works, but my own test shows that the receiver starts to add a lot of hiss when it is set above an output above 0. Plus, the C100 gain is very clean and doesn't have to be set very high when using the G3 set at 0.
