C100: C100 - Ninja ergonomics

While the Ninja-2, at this very moment, can read the C100 timecode and starts recording when you hit record on the C100. It's great. That's why it's currently the best pairing with the C100.

What's the fuss about 4:2:2?

I actually thought it would be easy to find, but I admit that Canon is not pushing the 4:2:2 output ability of the C100. I didn't find it online on a quick search now.

I remember reading it several times... oh, well...

I'm now looking at a physical paper brochure from Canon called "Power to tell stories" that is Cinema EOS only. It has an extensive spec sheet at the back for all the cameras: C100, C300, C500 and 1D-c.

It says external output for the C100 is Full HD, 4:2:2, 8 bit.

Surely you won't ask me to take a photo of this page with my iPhone and upload it. Just take my word for it.

I'll just tell Purchasing that AndreeOnline saw the spec that justifies a Ninja 2 in a brochure...They'll love that. This was never a personal attack on your honesty and I just don't understand why you seem to be taking it that way.

A lot of misunderstanding is flowing around the C100 simly because it far exceeds the conventional expectations peole had before it actually shipped. It is a gem, like the DVX100, that will be used for more than a few years by people at all levels.

You're addressing me as if we had spoken about this matter previously. I don't recollect such a discussion.

I am simply telling you that the C100 does in fact provide uncompressed 4:2:2 8 bit output via its HDMI port.

Now that you know what the options are, why don't you just tell "purchasing" this?

Here is a link to the PDF

(Can´t find the quote though)

Good find. I did a search for the pdf version as well, and found something similar.

But the one I found only talked about the C300. Yours seems to be more rescent with all the cameras in it.

But it is not the one I have in paper form. My brochure has all the specs at the end. It's in german and I picked it up in a specialized video store here in Zürich yesterday.

If it is actually the case that credibility is in question here, which seems absurd, I'll write it up and publish an image of the brochure.

I'd understand some doubt if I'd say "I remember reading somewhere"... but in this case I'm reading directly from Canon's own material. Apart from that, it's a pretty well known fact that it was always 4:2:2. At least if you've been following the news around the C100 for the last month or two.

I need to document specifications...your mileage might vary. ;-)

Also, would anyone care to address the difference(s) between 10 bit 4:2:2 and 8 bit 4:2:2 recorded as 10 bit 4:2:2? Any documentation would again be very appreciated.

Andree-
Gruezi!....were you at SchweizerVideo?....Claudio & Jose know there stuff so if you haven't checked in with them, do so. They can get you all the straight info you need..and a camera too. I go to Schweiz every 6 months (Feb 1st will be trip #21).....and anyone else doubting whether it is or isn't, "with Thor's hammer, I declare it 8 bit, 4-2-2 out the HDMI".......so not a mention of this again until the end of time....which is supposed to be next Friday!

Haha!

Make it a sticky!!!!! Oh this forum doesn't have any.

Haha... too funny!

Yep, that was actually the store—it's a good one.

We have two options here that I know of: Schweizervideo and Lite+Byte. They are both good!

I tried to get the camera from Schweizervideo as I like to support local business and also for warranty, but I'm shooting on Saturday and the C100 is not available here in Switzerland. Had to put my brother into play (lives in NYC) and he helped me ship it since Canon doesn't send (or allow to send) abroad.

I got it from from Terry from TexasMedia that is active around this forum. Lots of help and good service from him too!

Buy hey: 21 trips... a few years now then... =)
