Happy to help  Sometimes the threads get a little thick. Just a sign that everyone on here is passionate about what the do....which is a great thing.
Canon's primary competitor is Nikon, so I don't see Canon doing anything sub 5k for 4k till Nikon gets in gear. By that time companies like Black magic would have taken a nice chunk share of the video market. For example for $500 more you can get the URSA.
If the C300 mk2 had 4K and was just around the corner, I think the C100 mk2 would record 422 50Mbps. Leaving that out means they have to protect the higher segment, so I wouldn't expect 4K on the C300m2, not soon. Unless they're planning to add 422 to the C100m2 with an unannounced firmware update, which they very well could.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2014/09/12/the-ps4-and-xbox-one-are-already-out-of-date/It’s not just the manufacturers saying this, either. For instance, AV industry legend Joe Kane, of Joe Kane Productions, stated during a presentation at the recent IFA technology show in Berlin that ‘a year or two from now you won’t be able to buy a 1080p TV.’
Where sales are concerned, 4K TVs have already achieved a 6% global sales penetration despite currently costing considerably more than 1080p TVs. And with 4K prices plummeting daily and 4K panels rapidly supplanting 1080p ones on shop shelves, this 4K penetration figure is going to explode in the next 12-24 months.
I think the c100 mk2 can do 4k with firmware that canon can release around the same time as the rest of the lineup does go 4k. If they want to at that time. They will keep the difference between c300 and c100 to be more important enough though, but I doubt 4k will be such a feature. More likely bitrate, framerate and output connections will set them apart. Also form factor might be alittle different with the c300 mk2 getting top of the line lcd and vf.
In terms of internal features, Mark II should be simply implanted as a new firmware in C100 mark I.
Yes - I think from that it's true that the MKII does have the hardware to give 4k from the front end - but the question is whether it has a coder chip that's capable of encoding 4k? If the coder is solely capable of HD/AVC-HD, a firmware upgrade won't work.I think the mk2 is processing three 8mp channels all they way now, so the output to 4k should be only more demanding in compression..........?
As I see it, processing power for a clean downscale equals more or less the power needed for encoding. Or am I wrong?...but less in downscaling?
Why haven't the Magic Lantern team ever tried cracking into the EOS-C series cameras?

Probably because of the developers of ML own Canon DSLRs, but not EOS-C series cameras. Why haven't the Magic Lantern team ever tried cracking into the EOS-C series cameras?
