C100: C100 Mark II Price Drop to $2999

Nice! I was wondering when that was going to happen. I've recently seen used models going for less, so I figured it was only a matter of time before new models went lower as well.

Hopefully this is a sign that a Mark III is on its way, though I fear the C200 was the intended Mark III.

a C100 MKIII with 10 bits internally (non Raw) for $4,000 Would be Ideal for a lot of people I guess they will do it but only up to 30P

The MK I w/ the DPAF upgrade is down to $2k, which is a steal.

Even though I own the C200, I actually miss my C100 MKI. I had to sell it to bankroll the C200 but I loved the size and simplicity of the C100 MKI. I shot a Muhammad Ali documentary with it that's on HBO this year and just finished another film about Brazilian composer and musician Sergio Mendes that I began on the C100 MKI and finished on the C200, both shot on the C100 MKI with the Atomos Ninja Blade. A very capable little camera.

C100 MKI was a classic and in most ways, I actually liked it a little better than the C100 MKII, although the MKII has better features.

At the risk of igniting flames... Is it safe to say that the C100 mk ii is an upgrade from the Panny Af100, in terms of image quality?

i have always liked the image produced from the c100s.

my question is for those who espouse c100 love:

did you ever use the footage straight out of camera or did you usually employ a ninja/external recording device to get the higher bit rates?

thanks in advance.

thumbs up.

Puredrifting I've always loved the look of the original c100s but to my eye, it seems like the c100 II lost some of the grit and overall filmic aesthetic that the mark I had. I know you don't own the mark II but in your viewing experience, what are your thoughts?

And It's not just this brand, but am noticing a thinning out of images on most cameras when they continue to increase in sharpness and overall resolution. So for the look I'm trying to achieve I guess not always the latest and greatest is better .

Just a quick clarification, it is a $500 instant rebate that is effective until March 31st....I have no indication if it will continue after that.

I haven't used the AF100 but I would think from the sensor size alone you would get better depth of field and low light capabilities. This thread may give better insight.

No flames here. I've used both and the C100 I image is much better than anything I was able to get out of the AF100.

Every time I think about upgrading, I do another shoot with my two C100 Is and fall in love with the image all over again. My corporate and documentary clients have never been less than delighted with the footage that I've capture for them with that camera, and I can't think of many examples of not being able to match (or beat) the image quality of their other video content. It is a look that I can stand behind. The C100s have been 100% rock-solid reliable. So, I don't know that I'll be upgrading anytime soon (I do own a few BlackMagic cameras for narrative work). I rent when I need something that the C100 can't deliver, which in all honesty, isn't often.

The C100 II has some features that I wish I had (flip out LCD, 60P, body mic), but cutting projects with footage from both the Mark I and the Mark II always reminds me that I prefer the image of the original.

This year I stopped bothering with the Atomos recorders. I still use the Ninja Blade as a monitor, but the internal codec grades unbelievably well for what it is. And the MTS files right out of the cameras are really small and cut easily in Premiere. ProRes from the Atomos recorders grades slightly better, but it's a lot of extra trouble for an incremental improvement.

Original C100 or EOS R??

now there is an interesting thought!

similar price points.

ergos totally different.

4k on the eos r while "only" 1080 on the c100.

does dpaf work on the eos r in video mode while in 4k?

lastly, how good are the preamps in the c100 vs the preamps in the eos r since preamps in the canon dslrs are thought to be less than optimal.

thumbs up.

If Canon wanted to avoid conflict with their C200, a C100 MkIII would have to remain a 1080 HD camera, so no 4K recording.

No it would be an 8bit 4:2:0 4k camera. C200 is a raw output camera, and thats the differentiator. I don't think we'll ever see another HD cinema camera from any manufacturer. I honestly don't think we'll ever see another C100. The C200 was a very smart way to upgrade the bottom of the line, and has held it's value remarkably well during it's product cycle, better than any other camera in the series in this respect.

I only used the Blade for shooting green screen. For everything else, the internal AVCHD was remarkably good.

Agreed, the C100 MKII has better features but just for the look, I prefer the C100 MKI. I shot with the pair a few times and they had a pretty different look/color temp. If I hadn't had ridiculous client pressure to "get into 4K", I could have still been using the C100 MKI now and saved a LOT of money. And those clients who were all about "moving to 4K" mostly still haven't two years later.

more c100 questioning:

does the c100mk2 dual pixel autofocus face track like the dpaf function in the canon dslrs?

i know on my canon sl2, you go into video mode and use the dpaf and the box will follow the face or object that was focused.

does the c100 dpaf focus square follow the subject or does the subject need to stay in the middle of the frame and then re-compose?

thanks in advance.

thumbs up.

For what you gain in imaging tech, you lose in audio, nd, and overall handling in favor of the C100. Still, the EOS R has Clog and updated AF so as a b or c cam, tough to argue for the C100 in this price range. Tell me I'm wrong :)

C100 Mk. III is going to be 8k H.265 4:2:0 camcorder.
