I have an opportunity to but a used C100 with 660 hours on it for 2k without the duel AF upgrade, Is this an acceptable amount or should I hold tight ? I am coming from the DSLR word where sensor life matters but only to a point? Thanks for any help.

If it gets six more hours on it then I wouldn't buy it. But 660 should be fine.

Hours on my C100s (which are all still working fine):
First one I bought: 903
Second one: 600
Third one: 689
C300 Mark II: 65

I'd make a counter offer of $1800. You can buy it NEW with warranty for $2499 (no taxes and free shipping) from one of the forum sponsors (Canon Authorized Dealers)..............

A pro camera with 600 hours on it seems to have, at least, its half-life reached.
I used to work at Home Shopping Network which is live 24/7, thus, they keep their cameras left on 24/7 in all of their studios, 364 days a year (they take Christmas off). Doing the math, after one year, that's 8,736 hours that each camera is left on. Over a few years, say four, that would be 34,944 hours.

I'd have a hard time imagining 600 hours being the "half-life" of a C100.

Cameras are essentially computers and many people leave their computers on 24/7 without issue before eventually buying a new computer after a few years as the old one gets outdated (while often still working).

Nothing will happen if the camera is on for 600 or 1000. The sensors and electronics are robust enough. If there is any problem that will be visible when you switch on the camera.

It is not a DSLR that the shutter mechanism will fail. Watch out for the wear and tear. Ofcourse the number of hours can be used as a bargaining tool to squeeze the last drop out of the poor seller. :)

In India Canon gives 2 years warranty. However, after that if you have to take additional cover it was way more expensive. In your country you can also check what is the policy. You should be able to buy the C100 and renew or take additional warranty cover if required. However, you have to do the calculation as to if it is enough value or not.

Ya, I think I misunderestimated it. I just scanned some used high end gear for sale - Alexa, F65 and what not - and 660 is kind of a on a low end. Still, there are ~ 1,000 hour Alexa packages going for about half-price and a brand new, in-the-box C100 is only $2,500 at any authorized retailer. And the same retailer might cut a nice deal on a demo unit too. I'd call around, just in case.

Hours ain't what they used to be. Since we're no longer running tape through moving parts it's just not as crucial as it once was. I'd be more concerned with how banged up the camera looks. Some people are good with their gear and others are a little rougher. It'll show with a lot of scratches on the plastic or look fairly clean. 660 hours of being dragged through a war zone isn't the same as 660 in a climate controlled studio.
