C-mount with wide angle converter for GH2?

Excuse me if this has been covered before but I did some searching and didn't find anything.

There has been discussion of c-mount zoom lenses for use with the GH2 teleconversion feature, as a way to achieve a constant f2 or better. The main problem with this approach has been that you can't go very wide with these, since even a zoom starting at 8mm is only a 21mm when you use the 2.6x teleconversion, and ones that start at 6mm are all designed for 1/3" chip cameras and thus still vignette even with the teleconversion cropping.

But what about using a c-mount zoom with a high-quality wide-angle converter? Has anyone tried this? You lose a stop or so, but with an f1.8 lens or faster you'd still have a pretty fast lens. For example, there's a Canon 12.5-75mm f1.8 c-mount advertised right now on e-bay. With a .5x wide angle converter, that's 6.25-37.5mm, which is about 16-100mm with 2.6x teleconversion.

So, has anyone experimented with this? I guess one problem would be that the lens would be front-heavy..

Yep, just tried it. GH2 in ETC mode, Schneider-Kreusnach Cinegon 11.5mm f1.9 coupled with Optron video wide angle 0.5x converter. Looks fine. Haven't done the maths to see what effective focal-length or aperture I'm getting - but just now I had to choose lowest ISO so as to close down aperture for distance focussing. Thanks for the tip. It won't be my regular rig but I'll keep the converter handy for those wider shots.
