It means the firmware version is 1.2 (hackable) and the menu is in Japanese. You will have to do the hack and change the menu to English (or whatever).
 
Cool... Have only really read threads about this camera... I have a Canon 7d and a HPX302... and recently sold my HPX172.... will probably let the 302 go if I can get some decent money for it...

Should be fun trying the GH13...

I ordered one of these, with the intention of selling my old GH1 body once it arrives. I should be able to locally sell my old body for about what I'm paying these guys for the new one, so it's a pretty good deal.

I decided to do this for the supposedly new Japanese-manufactured sensor this camera should have. I have pretty big banding issues on my current GH1. Once it arrives, if I haven't sold my old one yet, I can do a side-by-side comparison, perhaps finally putting this big question to rest (as to whether the new Japanese sensor is in fact better). I'm really surprised no one has done this yet. All I've seen are a boatload of anecdotal stories, usually with the new one being better than the person "remembers" the old one being, which isn't much of a comparison at all.

Still, there were enough of the same story to convince me to try it.
 
The price is what has got me... $660AU for a new toy... right now I've ordered a few lens adaptors for my EOS and FD lenses...

I'd be very interested to know if this is true. I've read similar things on here, but I'd like to see some sort of comparison. Honestly, the mud has never been a huge problem for me, which is why I haven't gotten around to hacking it yet, but the banding or the fpn (I'm not exactly sure of the difference between the two) is horrible in any dark areas. I had a shadow on part of my actress's face (purposely) and that entire part of her face was very noisy and a brownish greenish color and it ruins the shot.

But then you can't call it a "Red One". :D (I just wanted a red one to match my 14-eye Doc Martens.)

j/k...I kinda thought some of the posts about the wonders of the red model were a bit misleading for some noobies. None the less, I'll try to do some tests with mine when it comes, and compare it to my early model/well burned in old GH1 that has a year's worth of weddings on it. Banding has never been a big issue for me...except with underexposed shots with the kit lens.
 
I will do a comparison between the Jap made GH1 and my others (Chinese). So far I'm pretty happy with "C" settings on the made in China ones I've been using. I did do a quick comparison with my new TM700 (actually a SD700...Pal equivalent). No contest...the GH13 blows the SD700 away in terms of image quality.

I'm actually more concerned with the "jello-vison" on the GH1. It's probably no worse than any other CMOS camera (I used a Canon 5d2 and 7D for a year)...but it's more than I would prefer. Though unlikely, a Global shutter on the GH2 would be very nice!
 
thanks guys for any test that might be done..i think the main test would be the high iso 1000-1600 and low light situation (fixed camera,same location for both) and compare the banding between the older and newer models ..thanks again!
 
looks like only about 5x gh1 bodies left plus some with kit lens, so those who want in need to act pretty quick...
 
yesterday it seemed like there are 4 more black ones left so I just wanted to confirm shipping and then buy it in the morning but today 4 of them were "magically" gone.

only gold ones he says..

yes now there is only one gold one left.. I could not resist and picked one up. I've gotten the GH1 Japanese model from thisisde1 much cheaper but I can verify it is the 1.2 version and worked quite well.
 
thisside1 has actually got 4 x gold GH1 bodies left, I have purchased 10 over the last month for myself and friends and all are working perfectly with C hack...
 
I ordered a red model from thisiside1 FOUR days ago. This morning he finally admitted he doesn't have any red ones, but at least he refunded my money promptly...so I won't report him to eBay. Still, pretty poor operation he must have going there...posting listings for items he doesn't actually have.

He did try to offer me a black or gold one, instead.
 
Well I have been looking at these red bodies with interest for a couple of hours. Then I decided: no gh1 for me. I'd rather wait for the gh2 to benefit from a better product from the factory and maybe a better kit lens. The only drawback is: no red option for the body!
