sweet! thanks guys so much, this would have been possible if it wasn't for my amazing cast and crew. Everyone worked so hard and we had so much fun on set. This was my first horse chase and I loved it. I can't wait to do this again for the feature. 
But for that we are going to need a lot more crew. Thanks again for all your kindness. I love making movies and this is my third DVXUSER fest and I love it every time. Everyone here is so great about positive and constructive feedback, which we all need.

Everyone here is so great about positive and constructive feedback, which we all need. Oh yes we used a polarizer, we didn't have any NDs unfortunately, but we made due. We did use the kit lens on the horse chase, but I rented as well a 7-14mm lens for a lot of the wide shots.
It worked really well.

OK, finally getting around to read the reviews. I'm a busy man. Thanks to all for your comments!
Yes we positioned the reflectors so that as the camera moved back, you would see that little highlight in his eye. We didn't really time it, we got lucky with that.
I totally thank Matt for bringing his camera so that we could get those extra shots he nabbed, and as we were running out of time, It was awesome that he could set up across the pond to get that shot we all wanted so badly, while we kept working away.
Yes it was awesome to have our little backyard premiere with all the cast and most the crew! This was a first for us, but will probably be a tradition from now on!
I'm glad this movie touched you. We shot it that way. It was supposed to be an emotional piece. We didn't want a typical story. Troy had too many comments about "Mercy" being to cliche, so we tried to get out of that.
Having the horses to work with was awesome. Next time, we'll build a truck or atv rig to smooth out those shots a bit. We wanted them shaky, but not quite as shaky as they came out, and now we know how to really take advantage of the GH1.
We did shoot a lot of it on the kit lense. But some on the 7-14mm lens too. I LOVE ME SOME WIDE LENSES! Especially this one. There was little to now edge distortion even at full wide. We wanted some more shallow depth of field shots in a few places, but didn't have the ND, so we decided to keep as much in focus as possible. This made it more challenging with choreography and story telling because we had to show everything, but I was glad we did.
Just a disclaimer, I hate westerns! But I think I'm starting to come around! I never really got into the style of the traditional western. I only like a handful. I did watch Wyatt Earp for inspiration, but Troy had a pretty specific shot list that I stuck to because I've learned to trust his vision, but I do argue with him still! That's my job! Challenge him to make the film the best it can be!
Overall I'm proud of this film and our talent and crew for pulling it off! Thanks for your comments guys, we love all criticism, even when we disagree with you!

Great Western... Perfect stunt work off the horse. The only hiccup here was the stupid real estate sign in the background.
Some terrific camera moves, loved those. The wide shot over the water is gorgeous.
I would have preferred the old man smoke a cigar rather than a cigarette.
The acting was great... All around excellent movie.
This was an awesome entry, top of my list.

Thanks! Oh and to my whole filmmaker buddies....we now have 4x4 0.3,0.5 and 0.9 ND filters on their way as well as a kickin Schneider 4x4 polarizer. They will fit in my matte box, which will fit on my shoulder mount for the GH1...Ooooooooooh.......fuuuuuun time in the future!:2vrolijk_08:
oh nice man that would have been nice to use. But now it will not be an issue.

This was a beautiful classical western short on a high level. I enjoyed very much just at the beginning the movement of the horses - it was very emotional touching. For sure one of the best films of this fest. Compliments!

Well so far out of all the films I watched this one has my highest rating. I got a feeling this is going to be the winner. It was executed well all around. Only weakness would be some continuity issues during the horse chase. At times the men were right on top of each other and other times at a greater distance. A couple of shots it felt like they were too close to each other and it almost started to get a comical feel because he was missing when shooting at him. Overall this has my highest rating. Good job and good luck.
Thanks for your support I really love the emotional part of this film. The horse chase was really a lot fun. Gun fire off a horse is pretty dang hard thou, but I see what your saying, I really appreciate our vote.

I am terrified of horses. Kudos to you and your crew..Damn that!:beer:

Thanks man ya this was my first time using any animal on set. It actually was a great experience. Thanks so much for your support and believe in the film.
