Buying a canon XH A1

Hey guys I been creeping around this forum for about a year now. Reading alot of the articles looking at footage from these incredible cameras. I'm finally ready to start asking questions and gaining knowledge. Im a Motiongraphics Designer who works on mostly website this is mywebsite www.steventapia.com. I want to expland and start shooting Music Videos. I figured hey why not do music videos i have a whole bunch of friends in the underground hiphop scene who can benefit from Music Videos.

I'v seen really nice footage from the Canon XH A1 and the dvx100 I'm really ineterseted in both, but i dont know which one would be beneficial for me at this level. I figure most of the videos are going straight to internet sites and youtube so the hd feature would be overkill for editing.

Questions
1. which one would be benificial for a starter
2. what additional programs and or hardware do i have to purchase to make these cameras really work.

I would very much appreciate some feedback thanks in advance an its nice to be apart of this community.

For music vids I'd go with the resolution. For just about any reason I can think of, at this point I would go with the A1 over the DVX.

That is coming from a DVX owner who is currently drolling for an A1.

I love my DVX, but if you are in video now people only have one question....."Do you do HD?". Frankly I don't get the big deal, because to date....every person that has asked me.....does not have the ability to play HD content. Weird!

Anyway......the A1 is a great cam. Buy it and get ya an HV20 for backup and for capture. I think circuit city was selling those the other day for $700.

Thanks. what about Programs and hardware. I have a dual core pc do you have any suggestions for programs that i can use to edit the footage. Im also going to need to buy an external hard drive thinking of getting a 250 gig or more. Thanks for the advice DivotDan

The more pc power you have the better. However, most dual cores should be fine. Get a Terabite of storage if you go external hard drive. I just got one, so much easier.

Got me a DVX and A1, and both cameras are fantastic. I use the A1 pretty exclusivly right now though. Still getting used to it. It is heavier than the dvx.

Thanks guys yeah i order an a1 the other day from amazon still waiting for it to get shipped. I'm excited and know ill be doing some nice stuff with it. In a couple of months I'l also be purchasing an adapter to get that nice DOF and film look i see all over on this site. I'm very excited thanks again.

I would invest into the Canon A1 since you still have the option to do both HDV and SD work within one camera. My NLE of choice is Sony Vegas.
