Brackendale WIP

Re: Brackendale WIP

Actually P.K., that output is 2:35:1

I shot in letterbox mode and added an additional mask for the scope ratio and cropped the letterbox mask off in Sorenson. When I'm finished the edit, I'll uprez using Photozoom.

The thin black bars are probably as a result of not being precise with the crop in Sorenson...just laziness on my part but it's not an issue with the original because I'll be using the regular letterbox on the uprezzed 16:9 to give it a 2:35:1 aspect ratio.

Anyway, glad you liked it. 8)

Re: Brackendale WIP

I really like the entry shot with the music, different from your usual work but very nice and gripping, it will be a good introduction for a triller.

Where you can see those bald eagles, is it the road who go to Whistler, I remember a trip there and I saw a lot of them on the bus ride all along the road.

Again, very good work and waiting for the complete movie.

I definitely have to get a handheld device. Glidecam 4000, hum!! Père Noël live in Canada, isn't it !! :D

Re: Brackendale WIP

Thanks disjecta. So Sorenson Squeeze will crop your output to whatever size you want (16:9, 2:35:1). But the reason you use PhotoZoom is because you want to crop the image uncompressed. There still isn't software that will crop 4:3 video without compressing it? Is that right? Sorry for all the questions. Research, you know. ;)

Re: Brackendale WIP

P.K., the key to using Photozoom is that it uses S-Spline technology to uprez the original 4x3 with letterbox to true anamorphic 16x9. This technology is the best I've seen, far exceeding Photoshop or any other program I've used in terms of maintaining the integrity of the original.

2:35:1 ratio is essentially the equivalent of letterbox 4x3 only you letterbox the 16x9 footage.

I have two preset masks I use in Premiere. One is a cinemascope for 4x3 letterbox so I can visualize the final output and the other is cinemascope for 16x9. I remove the mask when I output to Photozoom and then, when I've created my new uprezzed 16x9 project, I apply the 16x9 scope matte and everything looks the same as in my original 4x3 project.

Long explanation but I hope you can get a sense of the workflow.

Shadow, yes, this is on the road to Whistler...it's just off highway 99.

Re: Brackendale WIP

Disjecta, oh you are a sneaky one.... first you throw us southpaw jab with the atypical Disjecta fare of an opening sequence, then you throw the KO punch with some of the most stunning imagery I've seen from the DVX yet!!! You little devil!!

Disjecta I love the first part ...are you kidding me! It's innovative!

It seems like a good start for an indie film taken place in the city.

Good work...and keep experimenting! :D

Re: Brackendale WIP

Congrats again man!

As always, just download, take some minutes and relax. Why matter going to therapy or any yoga class. Just get your monthly disject movies and see how beautiful and meaningfull your life is.  :) Sound, image motion, really smooth.

I was wondering about the flouting and "crane tilts" later revealed :) loved the begining, for us veterans in your work it played as a introduction.  Scape from civilization and go see what really is wonderful, hehe the train scene was very nice. Liked the " fast" change in camera angle. This is sure a cinematrographer born instinct :) You can´t miss the chance. No way you can develop it!  ;D

Well, looking forward for my next sesion!  8)
