So I bought a 15inch 1.67 powerbook aluminum 2gigs ram 80gig HD. Its the last like best model made of the powerbook. Its in really good conditon and guy just had new battery put in it. I used coconut Battery app to find out info and it says 99% life.

I know alot of you on here use em for offloading. Can you recommend a workflow/program list you use onsite.

Right now im installing Final Cut Pro 6. I installed the disk that comes with the hvx200 from panasonic.

I plan on upgrading the HD to biggest possible which is like 160. Which should be more then enough for what I plan on doing. ANd then a 320gig external I will back up to each night while shooting.

Write protect the cards before mounting.

Do a Finder copy to the desktop. Copy to a backup drive and then L/T from one of the copies.

you dont NEED anything else. the main reason to use a 3rd party software product for transfer is if you need the metadata info. ive been shooting for nearly 3 years just doing drag and drop transfers (and not bothering with write-protecting either) to my old 1.0 ghz powerbook and ive never had a SINGLE even hint of an issue...

reformat the card in the camera.

wgzn has the simplest method, but I would still WP my cards. you don't need drivers either if you have firewire.

now all this assumes you can use the camera to offload cards, instead of needing it to shoot.

ya maybe I should of clarified. Im going to be using the card slot on the PB to offload while still shooting....

I know there is a automatic offloader that all u have to do is insert card and walk away

"Shotput Pro" is the automatic offloader. I've been using it and been happy with the results. I've also never had an issue with drag and drop either- which requires no software but your OS.

I do not let Shotput Pro automatically reformat the cards though. I use 'P2 Log' to open the video files and spot check playback. Since you're installing FCP you could use that to spot check your files instead of buying yet more software.

P2CMS is not 'supported' on non-ntel macs, but that doesn't mean it won't work for playback of files either - you can find it (for free) on Panasonic's site.
