Bolex D16: RAW, 16/Super 16 sensor size, costs less than MkIII

Latest update from the DBolex forums...
"We will be delivering the Kickstarter cameras in August." - Joe Rubinstein

Is it significant that the quote only mentions the month of August, and does not specify a particular year? :cheesy:

Seriously, though, I hope they do deliver next month. I'm curious to see some footage.

I mainly hope for those that invested they get their cameras in August and can begin shooting with them...but yeah seeing some footage would be cool too. ;)

The images look very nice. If they can get this working the people that ordered these are going to be very happy.

It is working. The development firmware was programmed for the maximum 32fps frame rate, now they are writing the additional layers for standard frame rates.

Very promising. Raw .DNGs look nice. There's no obvious sign of the quadrant issue. They look a touch green/yellow when viewed under Rawstudio, but boosting the blue channel a bit makes them look more natural.

Encouraging.

Nice indeed. And +1 for Razz getting a free camera, or, more realistically, at least a first-in-the-line privilege when more cameras are made.

Joe said he shot them under Kinos with daylight spill thru the windows, but forgot to turn off the fluorescents. IMO they have done a superb job with sensor calibration. The highlight roll off is very nice with little effort.

To be honest, the corrected versions don't look good at all. The highlights are a bit much. I'd bring the levels down some.
Plus the skin looks orange and completely unnatural. People will see what they want to see, but imo I have seen way better images even out of C300, not to mention BMDCC.

I think its fine if you're going for that style. It has the VSCO look to it. Popular with photographers. I don't think its that bad really

There is no particular "look" to a DNG raw camera. You can make a raw image look pretty much any way you want it to within very broad limits. There is no wrong interpretation, just an infinite palette of possibilities.
