BlackMagic Cinema Camera Technology Announcements & Latest Info'

Ahh it's a small world, me and my producer have our production meetings at a cafe 50m from where John shot the dusk footage. It's great to see a company producing a 4k camera for a reasonable price. Looking at the Bondi footage it's certainly no low light king but for 3k you can't really complain can you? It could make a great partner for my 5D MKIII. I just wish it had an APS-C sensor.

That's funny- small world indeed!. You meant 2.5K, right? Or are you talking about another camera? Can't wait to try out the BlackMagic Camera though.

Props to BlackMagic. I knew a manufacturer could come along and give the end user what they wanted. Is it perfect, heck no. But for the price it is worth it (Plus the full version of Resolve!) The technology has been around for a while, it is amazing why Sony, Panasonic, Canon, JVC or even RED did not release something like this sooner. In the tech game, if you do not cannibalize your own market, somebody smaller and faster will.

BlackMagic is filling in a major part of the market that has been desperately wanting something like this, and big companies have been less than willing to fully give that at this kind of price/performance level for their own reasons. Definitely "kudos" to Blackmagic, and we all should encourage them, and communicate to them as well.

Red Scarlet 3K for 3K. I'm waiting on that.

You're kidding, right? I don't know how to tell you this but...you're going to be waiting forever. That RED promise has come and gone. Blackmagic just filled that gap red left by promising such a thing, you'd be surprised at how many doc shooters were absolutely furious that red dropped the s16 scarlet. They should be happy now!

I was just talking to a friend that had some concerns with the choice of the internal battery only on the BlackMagic camera.

Not a real problem I said. There will be 3rd party manufactures who will probably build something that looks like a DSLR extended battery grip ( most likely removable batteries option ) that you would screw on the bottom plate. Or you could wear a battery belt. However I think the better route would be a more sleek design to complement the BMCC, which would be more like a DSLR battery grip in form.

Hey everyone. First i have to say that i've only really shot video with a Panasonic HMC-40. So, i know little about building a rig out of something like a DLSR or this new Blackmagic Cinema Camera.

I think i want one!

But i'd like to know what i can and can't do as far as building a rig. I rarely shoot hand held. We do a lot of green screen. Lots of shots on the tri-pod. So, a couple of questions...

Could I hook up an external monitor to this? We often need to see what we're doing from in front of the camera.

I also have an old Rode Video Mic i haven't used in a while (eventually got XLR). Is an external audio recorder needed for this?

I assume you'd want a follow focus dial. Any other accessories you'd be looking at for this camera?

Thanks for any info. I'm one of those You Tube sorts who were waiting to hear all about the 5D Mark III and felt disappointed. Been meaning to get a new camera for a long time, and now this comes along and sounds great. Just want to make sure there's no huge drawbacks when it comes to building sort of a rig for it.

Welcome to DVXuser Chad.

The same FF units that work on any other DSLR, will work with this since that has to do with the lenses than it does with the Blackmagic camera.

As for audio, you can plug in your mics to the 1/4 mic inputs. You might go through a mixer if you want first, then to the camera. There will be a few ways to do it though.

External monitoring will come most likely using the SDI out to a monitor. Again many options will surface before it ships from 3rd party companies.

Since the camera has just been announced there's more questions everyday than can be answered at the moment. However stick around, over the next few weeks, especially after NAB, lots will answered....
