BlackMagic Cinema Camera Technology Announcements & Latest Info'

So the fastest widest lens for this camera is the Tokina 11-16. That's f2.8 which I can definitely live with. Have to play with it on this camera at ISO 800 to get a feel for it, but that shouldn't be a problem to light, and will give me plenty of DoF. I don't need the actors nose in focus and her ear out of focus.

What's the comparison to a 7d for the Tokina 11-16? Is it about double so on the BM it's 22-32mm equivalent? I can live with that.

11 on this cam's about a 18 on APS-C, I think. I'll get a comparison chart up of the most popular focal lengths soon.

Could this be the "new dvx"?

Very possible. It kind of zigs when everyone else was zagging. The original DVX brought affordable 24P to the masses and enabled filmic results without having to shoot on film. This is bringing affordable raw and film-like dynamic range to the masses. Pretty revolutionary considering the price gap between this and the next options.

@John Brawley

Does the cam have a setting to downconvert its HD-SDI output to SDI? Reason I ask is that I own a nice 1000-line SDI 16:9 monitor. Just wondering.

And thanks for sharing here & on your blog!

They just need an ipad3 app with ultra scope, which already has a monitor. Or copy what Nikon recently did recently with their D4, with the monitor in an ipad app (with autofocus) run through wifi ... this would replace their remote control. Red is going down a similar path with their touch screen, and ipad apps were also mentioned.

That's the right direction.

Exactly. Just seems like it has the very real potential to be the 'it' camera for the masses--a lot like the dvx was in its glory days.

+ if BMD offer battery grip ...
i would go for it....

Send them the suggestion. BlackMagic is an awesome company, they listen to their costumer's- Feedback is gold to companies that
take it to heart. There will be 3rd party companies galore lining up to make accessories for the BlackMagic camera. The 3rd party companies live for this, and a camera like this that's getting major attention is good business for them. Amazing things are coming in the months & year to come.

Good on ya, Blackmagic. I'm buying this camera for sure. I'm wondering if they'll give us more frame rates via, firmware updates? At least up to 48fps.

If you wanted to use an external monitor with this camera, what would be a pretty good, somewhat inexpensive one that would work with it?

I don't really know much about the connections on this camera.

Although not inexpensive, the new Small HD 7" OLED hooked up to the SDI port would be the perfect monitor.

The prototype I saw at NAB was sweet.

I doubt it.

Remember, the HD-SDI monitor output is a quick debayer. it looks good, but it's not got the same res as what's recorded on the DNG's.....

cheers John. Also how big were the cinema DNG files? Did you keep any small ones?

I can provide you server space and an ftp upload link if you have a file that is small enough and you don't mind sharing

Cinema DNG files are like numbered PS files. Each frame is like a 5MB photoshop file.

Does this cam communicated with EFS lenses? Just wondering if my Tamron 17-50 would work on it. I know the cam's EF mount (but i dont know if that means electornically compatible also or just mechanically )
