Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

Why must people bicker over every little non-issue?

From the Blackmagic specification:

"Lens Mount EF and ZE mount compatible with electronic iris control"

So, they actually ARE calling it an "EF" mount. They are not concealing anything. Give it a rest.

PS.

That's "ridiculous" to state accurate facts? Give me a break.

So you are saying that before Nab BM did not know the difference between calling it an EF vs a ZF or ZE mount and briefed their entire staff that way?
Now THAT is truly ridiculous.

This is what I'm talking about. You're libeling the company here:

"So you are saying that before Nab BM did not know the difference between calling it an EF vs a ZF or ZE mount and briefed their entire staff that way?

What evidence do you have that they "briefed their entire staff that way?" I mean, really, what is this about? The specification is published online, for the world to read. Evidently that's not good enough for some? If some staff made errors on a trade show floor, I hardly think that's evidence of deliberate malfeasance, as you claim. Stop smearing the company based on hearsay and speculation.

Wow the ZE, ZF, EF arguments? :violin:

What I would like to see and rather quickly, is for BMD to get a team together and shoot a promo with this camera in a set design environment. Some lighting, some crane work, some steadicam work, slides, pans, blah blah blah. Some BTS footage of it too. Buying a camera without such material seems a bit worrisome for me. I want to see it in action and with action. I like the little vimeo home movies done with it, but lets see this thing in a production environment. Lets see a whip pan (I think we all know the results, but let's see it for ourselves). It's near May, they ship in July, lets see some promos by mid to late May.

But in reality and philosophy, this camera and what is offered is fantastic. Even if the camera is a POS, and only good for some static shots or specialty captures, you are still getting a full copy of resolve. Pretty good deal in my book.

Talk on this subject ends at this line ----------------------------

@dustylense
i like tests done by John Brawley ...rough'n'dirty real situations, natural extreme light and minimal color correction ...
not alll that hollywood control ,big crew and best color correction money can buy ....
any camera can look good in that situation ...

Never said I didn't like it. But I'm sure there are those here that plan to use it with a sense of Hollywood control. That's a fact. So let's see it in that situation before shipping. Not all "cinema" is footage of a day at the beach. But it looked good, no doubt there. It would be like test driving a sports car and not going over 40MPH. Let's see what this puppy can do, even if it has a hard time cornering.

But what John shot is quite nice, it's why we are all here and there are 166 pages of interest on this camera. I'm already on a waiting list and have set aside money for this cam all due to Johns footage. He should get 2% of all profits on the camera sales because he sold me this camera.

what CANON did is commercial not demo.... just read camera tests done by AMERICAN CINEMATOGRAPHER magazine ...
most extreme situation , low light , highlight clipping ,color rendition , mix light , jello... that is done with any new camera and film stock... and no mater that they will be used in most control situations...footage at the beach is not meant to look good it showed how sensor behaved in extreme one point light ...
it passed test ...
here are real test of c500

what do you think , no bad but looks like that it has less DR than BMD camera...

:)

There will be plenty of time for extreme testing of the BMC as soon as it's released.
In the meantime, comparing a 40K camera system to a 3K camera system seems a bit premature when neither has been released... not to mention far fetched given the 13:1 price difference.

Just my 2 cents.

i just want to say that we are already had more extreme testing of DMB camera than canon C500 or 1DC...
and i hate to make this conversation look like funboy war...

Look, they made a mistake. Cut them an inch of slack and drop it, okay?

Day 1, they said it was Canon and Nikon mount. Day two they corrected themselves and said it was Canon only. I never heard the words "ZF mount" or "ZE mount" on the show floor. I heard their reps say "Canon lenses" and "Nikon lenses" on the first day, and then after the news hit and we (the worldwide rabid fan community) pointed out their error, they updated their brochure to remove "ZF" and changed it to "ZE" and started calling it "Canon mount only, and you can use Nikon lenses with an adapter."

No "malfeasance", just a case of a company that's never sold a camera before briefing a staff who has never sold a camera before, and they made a tiny error and they corrected it.

they goofed. I'm sure they were referring to EF mount Zeiss glass aka ZE series

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=zeiss+ze&N=0&InitialSearch=yes

So... if the crop factor is 2.4, then all we have to do is multiply to get our effective focal length on the BMC, is this correct?

Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZE
= 36mm

Distagon T* 18mm f/3.5 ZE = 42mm
Distagon T* 21mm f/2.8 ZE = 50mm
Distagon T* 25mm f/2.0 ZE = 60mm
Distagon T* 28mm f/2.0 ZE = 67mm
Distagon 35mm T* f/2 ZE = 84mm

I don't own any of these, btw, just daydreaming about a set of matched lenses that would fit the bill. The 18, 25, and 35 together are about 4300 bucks. Yikes.

Also, thanks to jb for answering all the questions and so forth.

As far as you know, is the Canon EF mount and the EF-S mount virtually the same? I'm not sure what the difference is, but I have a Canon T3i that came with an 18-55mm EF-S lens, and just want to know if an EF-S lens will work on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera.

It makes no sense to put a horrible build and non constant aperture cheap lens on this camera. It would be like looking at a high resolution image through a window.

Yes, it will work.

Thank you for your feedback, but I just wanted to know if the EF Mount and the EF-S Mounts are the same or not. Regardless of whether the quality of the lens is good or not, will it actually attach to the Blackmagic Cinema Camera without an additional adapter ring?
