Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

I'm a big fan of having more than the minimum. While the extra umph! might not be "needed", it will be appreciated. And the price difference is becoming negligible. Also, SATA3 is backwards compatible with SATA2 so there is really no reason not to have it.

As for your speed requirements, here is a speed chart of the current king of consumer SSD (OCZ Vertex3, SandForce controller, SATA3): http://www.anandtech.com/show/4256/the-ocz-vertex-3-review-120gb/6

Here is a chart of a test that uses Incompressible data: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4256/the-ocz-vertex-3-review-120gb/10

This is already bit outdated, but gives an idea that 150MB/sec is not a problem with good SSD and it does not have to be that expensive one.

This list is not specifically for the CinemaCam (for HyperDeck Shuttle instead), but I guess it's enough to have an idea:

Certified SSDs
The following SSDs are recommended for uncompressed 10-bit video capture:

OCZ 240GB Vertex 3
OCZ 480GB Vertex 3
Crucial 256GB C300
Crucial 512GB M4 (firmware 009)
Kingston 64GB SSDNow V+100
Kingston 128GB SSDNow V+100
Samsung SSD 830 512GB

This one looks interesting: Crucial 512GB M4 for 550$ at Amazon, it could store _one hour_ of uncompressed RAW video at 24p.
Sorry guys, could somebody check me the price of a single 256GB RED REDMAG SSD? ...

I tried to look through several pages to find the answer, but I didn't... so sorry if it has already been asked!

But can it record Prores in 2.5k or just 1080p?

"The new Blackmagic Design camera has already picked up a huge Fanboy base before it's release much like the Red Scarlet camera did, with people putting down money before a fully functioning camera has even been released. I must admit that I am intrigued, but I would never put down my hard earned cash for a camera without testing it first. I would really hate to pay for a camera only to be a Beta tester, much in the same way that Scarlet owners are now, without full functionality & dealing with issues.

All the Best!

Dave"

This is a leading edge vs bleeding edge thing... I've always preferred the bleeding edge, thus embraced red early, 5d early, etc. Probably smarter to be a little more conservative, but when the 'better' machine arrives, I can't keep myself away, hard as I try!

1080p for compressed formats with 1080p sampled from 2.5K image, not windowed

An intelligent, & well moderated, thread for requests would be great.

One relatively simple request would be for a behind-the-lens filter tray for NDs, & such. Like the ones used on super telephoto SLR lenses.

Best,
Bern

I think this is going to be a pretty big camera around here, and in general. It's already overshadowing the other great NAB announcements in this forum, perhaps it's time to move it to its own sub forum?

This has been requested multiple times over the past 50+ pages.

i'll wait until the first BMD CC users reports a bugs, as always in new product, there's place to fix the bugs, improve smth etc. I'll be also waiting for highISO /ASA "real" test, but to be honest, the price for camera and software are good, very good... but'll wait for users speech ;)

I know everyone is excited about 2.5K res the ability to shoot raw and all that jazz.

But I'm more excited about shooting in prores and having my metadata transfer over to FCP. Or even simple things like a headphone jack! Or 2 count them 2 balanced audio ins.

This camera would save me from transcoding my media to prores it will save a good amount of time logging my footage and I wouldn't have to sync up the audio from my H4N audio recorder.

Its going to save a lot of time in the editing process.

The good thing is that, even though the DR won't be the full 13 reported with your Log ProREs files, you can still use Resolve with no issues after editing. Importing the XML or EDL from your NLE will see all of the cuts, just color as normal.

Again, I hope that we're able to pre-apply or bake-in luts for ProRes and DNxHD workflows. It's no big deal if not, but extra icing if so.

LOL do people actually do that? I think this might be the first time I have ever (in the context of DSLR video) heard someone refer to moire, banding and aliasing in a positive light! :)
Or it might be a case where someone remarked, "Ew, look at all the horrible artifacts -- the aliasing, moire, and banding!" To which they responded, "Yeah, we know. It was intentional, duh!"

Agree. Being able to have high quality audio right in the camera and record directly to ProRes and great metadata could end up being the main way a lot of people use this camera. It's kind of like a DSLR, external audio recorder and SSD capture device all in one. Everything else is just puddles of rich yummy gravy

If they can not adopt electronical MTF mount they should leave the doors open for third party adopter makers ( like Cecio ) ..and make the removeable front mount ( similar like Scarlet ) .. 4 knobs and ready to go..
