Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

Yeah the only question marks for me at this point are battery options (I know they say you can use an external battery) and the low light performance. If I use a nifty fifty wide open can I shoot in very little light without destroying the image with noise? I know the light sensitivity won't be what it is on my Canon DSLR, but I'd like to see that tested... And in regards to the external battery will it be a decent solution like a battery grip or will in be tying and velcroing the battery to the camera or tripod?

If there are decent answers to both those questions I'll overlook the lack of 60p and resign myself to screw on ND filters and pony up the cash.

"Yes. I've got time on the weekend. I'll try to do something. What do we want to see ?

John--

Not sure if this has already been suggested:

a) 1 candle shot, 2, 3 candle shots
b) night sky, stars
c) walking through a city sidewalk at night (hopefully following a pretty girl around)
d) fast motion action sequence, hand held
e) strobe lights, police flashers
f) can you list all the available shutter speeds?

I think a totally modular approach is also a cool idea, to make this even more affordable. Just a sensor with HD-SDI and hdmi out. You would not be able to record RAW but take 10bit out to a Shuttle. Drop in wifi and I can control it via my iPhone. Sell it for $1,500

yes. I mean if you're going to release a point and shoot camera, Y Not make it modular and wifi friendly

BMD is camera that sony and canon would give as ...
in 2020 ...

Yes, if this never existed. If anything, this camera will do wonders when it comes to competition. How can Sony, Canon, Panasonic, etc let them get away with cornering this part of the market with such specs - they must fight back, and they more than likely will (after BMD has sold tons of these!!).

True, as same as happened with RED.

i just hope that they dont decide to buy BMD and kill it same as andromeda...
its cheaper...

Wow, just... wow. I am now finished reading every post in this thread.

THIS IS EPIC. A $3000 true cinema camera. RAW Cinema DNG, ProRes and DNxHD recording to SSD. I'm amazed. It seems like the perfect camera... almost.

First up, what the heck is this?

I hope those colored dots get fixed before they release the camera. The RED ONE had a problem with over-exposed light sources turning dark (the so-called purple-sun issue) and this looks to be a similar thing.

Also, 90 minutes battery life is fine, but since it's not replaceable, they should provide an adequate optional external battery and battery mount for more $$.

Built-in ND filters would be heaven, but I'll live.

In fact, I can easily deal with all of those issues (minor, really, especially considering the price). My biggest gripe is the lens mount. EF is great, but had they made it modular in the first place they would have KILLED. Now, John Brawley said they're thinking of PL and Micro 4/3 mount camera models as well. If so, then that helps a ton, but the swappable lens mount would have been ideal.

I'm almost sold on this thing, but I need to be able to mount my Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 and SLR Magic 12mm f/1.6 lenses on it! Please make the Micro 4/3 mount ASAP! It doesn't even need to be a smart mount that controls electronics. Just a dumb Micro 4/3 mount (or adapter) and I'm set. Pretty please?

Regardless, I think it's safe to say that Black Magic has completely stolen this NAB show. Very, very awesome. I've got the money right here, I just need to be able to use my current lenses.

It was originally HDMI, but they switched to the *better* standard of HD SDI. They weren't thinking about VF's, but other monitoring options. I think with the number's they'll sell, there will be VF makers doing HD-SDI versions.

Yup. Also I believe that I caught something about Thunderbolt interface being used but not sure if that was live out or just file transfer. Since Thunderbold supports dual channel it could ostensibly used as the protocol for external 'monitoring' rather than HD SDI.

Anything around 30fps is useless, according known backtesting.

I have seen twixtor footage faster than 30fps look very good. Twixtor could give faster frame rates for this camera in post. If it can be done without major artifacts then this is the perfect camera for me.

I noticed they changed the website to say EF and ZE not EF and ZF.

Yeah, saw that too. Pretty sure it was a typo. But that still leaves us with a pretty good selection of lenses.

I'm a m4/3/Nikon guy, but I'll sell the m4/3 lenses & bodies and keep the Nikons (and a $99 Nikon to EOS adapter w focus confirm) if this camera is what it appears to be.

I personally don't think the EF mount is limiting. There's pretty much a lens for every budget. For example, if you want a fast 35mm focal length lens for your BMC, you can buy a $359 Canon EF f2, a $1480 Canon EF f1.4L, an $1843 Zeiss Distagon f1.4 ZE, or, if you really want a cinema grade lens, a $3900 Zeiss Compact Prime CP.2 T2.1. Funny thing - I've noticed, since yesterday, that Amazon's stocks of these lenses are all starting to go down :-)
