Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

Wow, this camera looks pretty sweet. For someone who wanted the original 2/3" Scarlet, and currently works with Micro 4/3rds, I've got no qualms with the sensor size. What this camera offers for the price is quite remarkable, and the footage - especially Beach Dusk - shows some real potential.

Exciting times. I hope this camera is available soooooon :D

That said....I'm looking forward to the "backlash" that should follow in about 2 years (as long as we all buy these things like tic-tacs)...where the big 3 are FORCED to compete. We've all known that they've been holding back, and now, Black Magic is proving it! I wonder what Canon, Sony, and Panny will release in 2 years to compete?

They will not compete and sell off their pro camera divisions and focus on consumer cameras. This is not the time to be a large consumer electronic company and be in the pro camera business.

TV Logic EVF is gonna pair with this here mini-titan quite nicely I'd say. HD-SDI in and pass-through out? Mmhmm.

...way too pricey . I'm betting lcdvf , or someone else , will have a flip-up before fall. Or someone else will add hd-sdi in , or maybe blackmagic's already working on a solution. Probably no coincidence blackmagic makes this. It's nice how the lcd face tilts too. The problem is you gotta get to the touchscreen but I'd rather pay 150 than 1500 anyday

I'll ask them about battery tomorrow, but I'm guessing it's like the Hyperdeck.

On the Hyperdeck the internal battery charges from the external charger or any other 12v source. I run mine from the IDX bricks and the internal acts like an onboard UPS - no need to stop the recorder to change batteries. I hope it works this way as well.

I'll confirm tomorrow.

Thanks very much. Have you heard of any of the internal batteries on the hyper decks conking out?

On the flip side, that means continuous power, no drop outs, and I'm sure there's a battery meter read out. It also means that you can charge your externals and basically live off of two batteries. One should power the camera for the proposed two hour charging time, then it's off to the charger with it.

The price is a little up there, I can agree. But, it's the options and the screen that make it worth it for me. We've invested in a TV logic 5.6" and despite its flaws, it goes all over the place. The HD-SDI passthrough from HDMI is a great thing to have.

That said, I welcome a cheaper solution that allows HD-SDI passthrough.

I thought my DP6 does passthrough as well, is this not the case?

Crappy laptop here too (my edit suite is in storage for 4 days) Macbook 13" 1280X800. I see it loud and clear :(

If you are watching on VIMEO, take the banding with a grain of salt. I know from personal experience that it is VERY easy to get banding on Vimeo that is not in the footage, and in my case, I've not found a solution around it. Not saying it doesn't band, but I would NOT use Vimeo to make that determination.

Though I don't think likely, what are the chances of the Thunderbolt being similar to a Mac, where it is backwards compatible with the Minidisplay port>HDMI cable? A thunderbolt to HDMI out of this into a HDMI monitor/evf?

Red chose not to compete in this space under $10K last year, and went to higher-end pro market only.
It was perhaps their best decision since the creation of the Red One and compressed RedRAW.

Red is executing very well in the space they want to be now and in the future,
not lower res than where they were 6 years ago with the Red One.

I expect Canon, Nikon, etc will be battling in this under $10K space
with every other manufacturer to get to 4K RAW out asap over the next 3 years.

That said, what a great start in RAW cameras by Blackmagic-design,
and I expect their expertise with 4K data cards will come in handy next year
at NAB based on the potential huge success of this product.

I think the next iteration of RAW cameras will be when the
true benefits of competition democratize 4K at under $10K. You have to love progress!

Well put and indeed, I recall when indie shooters were sooooo excited over Hi8 ;)
So 2.5K of 2012 is the Hi8 of 1995.
The difference is that the gap between RED's high end and these rapidly gaining lower price-points is not really the difference between Broadcast and Home Movies anymore. I feel a bit embarrassed as I saw this coming and feel that a lot of momentum will be lost by RED et alia, unless they up the ante in about a year.
The crazy thing is the big laggard in this 'universe' is the end user's screen. TV Panel makers should be sweating bullets right about now. Apple is on the right track with 'the New ipad'. Which begs the question, at what point can we have a 7" tablet that can double as a wireless camera monitor. APPLE??? Are you listening?

That'd be nice.

"If you are watching on VIMEO, take the banding with a grain of salt."

Of course. A 12 bit color space, uncompressed no less, will give zero banding. I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Wow, has there ever been a thread on here blow up like this one? I click on last page and there are already another three pages added. Insane. Guess people are excited.

How much dynamic range does the GH2 have?

Somewhere around 8.5~9 useable stops.

my wish list for the GH3 was:

11 useable stops of dr
Fix the HDMI monitoring
Fix the ISO bug
Still hackable

I would pay 1500 for that.

So, thanks BMD, for giving me twice as much at twice the price. I call it fair.

I'm not sure if this has been posted, not going through 42 pages. DOES IT HAVE NIKON MOUNT OPTION? if it does, i would honestly pre-order this.
