Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

Well put and indeed, I recall when indie shooters were sooooo excited over Hi8 ;)
So 2.5K of 2012 is the Hi8 of 1995.
The difference is that the gap between RED's high end and these rapidly gaining lower price-points is not really the difference between Broadcast and Home Movies anymore. I feel a bit embarrassed as I saw this coming and feel that a lot of momentum will be lost by RED et alia, unless they up the ante in about a year.
The crazy thing is the big laggard in this 'universe' is the end user's screen. TV Panel makers should be sweating bullets right about now. Apple is on the right track with 'the New ipad'. Which begs the question, at what point can we have a 7" tablet that can double as a wireless camera monitor. APPLE??? Are you listening?

Apple might not, but I am! :) I would LOVE to monitor on my ipad3! :) Not all the time, but wireless when my camera is up on the crane, count me in!

The new JVC HM650 can transmit its video signal wirelessly. It's meant to deliver video to a TV station without using a microwave truck or sat truck. It has built in Wifi and FTP connectivity (whatever that is).
Would that be able to send a signal to an iPad?

ETA - it does have "WiFi connectivity with Apps for iOS/Android for remote control, remote viewing, metadata upload"

Somewhere around 8.5~9 useable stops.

my wish list for the GH3 was:

11 useable stops of dr
Fix the HDMI monitoring
Fix the ISO bug
Still hackable

I would pay 1500 for that.

So, thanks BMD, for giving me twice as much at twice the price. I call it fair.

Thanks.

The metadata entry is cool, but it would be cooler if one could link the camera to a laptop or mobile device wirelessly and enter the metadata that way. I mean, what happens when it's a busy shooting schedule and you have to bogart the camera to enter shoot notes? And it's not like you can start pecking away at the touchscreen while the camera is still rolling a take.

Agree completely. The only other "tiny" little thing I want is to be able to use short flange adapters for dumb 4/3 lenses (Voight 25, 17.5) and all the other things they can adapt to.

Haha he so avoided the "Why not super 35mm guys?" question.

Honestly, he didn't avoid it though, he basically pointed out "S35 would've cost more, we wanted to deliver a camera at this price point with these incredispecs"

I applaud how he went about saying it instead of just saying "we wanted it to be cheaper."

Sell on features and benefits of your product, not on price.

Oh! and in regards to this, the 4/3 lens thing, three or four times John Brawley (on his blog) Mentioned M4/3 is possible in the future of the camera. That sounds to me like he passed it on in his wish list or they were already thinking about it.

Three months is a decent amount of time to get other mounts ready to ship, and it's also enough time save up some dough!

I'm not sure if this has been posted, not going through 42 pages. DOES IT HAVE NIKON MOUNT OPTION? if it does, i would honestly pre-order this.

From the tech specs:

EF and ZF mount compatible with electronic iris control

What's interesting to me is that ZF lenses are not electronically controlled. So either they are talking about F mount or ZE lenses. But I would hate to think a company that built a camera doesn't know the difference between ZF and ZE. Even so it's puzzling to me they keep referring to ZF. Is there a legal reason for this perhaps?

Oh nice, didn't see that! People clamoring for s35 don't realize all the great lens choices that might possibly work with a 15mm wide sensor. There are hundreds of different c-mount options, and possibly some s16 lenses that will cover it. Easy adaptation to OCT 18/19 for lomos, B4 parfocal zoom lenses with doublers - possibly some working without them.

Yeah yeah, thats why i asked to see if anyone confirmed by ZF mount did they mean NIKON or ZE mount and just listed the wrong thing? I have an fs100 and use all nikon lenses. This little guy would be a nice $3k addition to my setup.

=[ that 17mm/0.95 just went up a notch on my want list... iCry

And I think the value of the 12/1.6 hyperprime is going to sky rocket if they can confirm M4/3 adaptation before release date.

Thought I'd add this on a positive note, I think the arrival today of the 2.5k BlackMagic camera is great news for the Digital Bolex guys as they're not out there in this 2k/2.5k price bracket on their own. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd been in contact together and knew already?

The BM camera will only improve the 'prototype' stage of the D16 as there's now another similar 'real life' camera out there to learn from.

The people writing probably arent the people making/designing. Ive assumed they mean that EF and ZE's have iris control.

AGH Crap another question: does John mention anything about the electronic mounts controlling things like image Stabilization? That would be a huge factor in which mount to initially buy, even if you get two different mounts (M4/3). Etc.

It'd also be a serious boon to people wanting to go handheld with long lenses.

I didn't get the pricing vibe from his answer. It was more like "Ha! We wanted to focus on other priorities like this high technology example" - which is pretty cool. Having SSD, raw, touch-screen etc.

I'm cool with the sensor size on this baby, all the other stuff is AWESOME.

Barry Green told us about how a single 4K sensor, with the Bayer filter, cannot deliver full 4K. More on the lines of 2.5K, or something. It has to do with the monochrome sensor splitting into 1/4 red pixels, 1/4 blue and 1/2 green - but I might have that mixed up. Very technical explanation that I admittedly don't fully understand.
Based on this, can we really expect a true 2.5K image from a 2.5K sensor?
As soon as Barry comes on this thread, perhaps he can explain - or someone else?
