Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

To settle the question of whether this cam is using CMOS or CCD, there is a bit of rolling shutter distortion visible John Brawley's "Dusk" video. Some of the quickly passing cars and trucks look to be skewed. It's not bad, but it's there. All things considered, I'm not going to complain.

I'm not going to stop being critical about anything, I certainly haven't made up any information. I guess as a mod you can ban me, but that seems a little silly, I didn't think that was the way they rolled in this forum.

Nobody's going to ban you, it's pretty simple though: if you don't have anything to add but urine to the pool, get out and go pee elsewhere. I saw your last few posts weren't productive, I commented. If you have questions, put them out there. You're free to share your opinion, otherwise, there's no need to repeat it if no ones attacked you or responded to it.

And, if you've got any discrepancies with that, feel free to PM me or report my post, or take it up with a mod.

@Wesley Byram
it's very subtle ...cool ...
looks like very fast sensor readout...

I'm eagerly awaiting some proper tests on that front.

That is one apparent advantage of the Digital Bolex over the Black Magic. It will be using a CCD sensor with a global shutter.

So how does this compare to that Bolex? I read those blurbs, but didnt get too excited.
For old 16mm I vote - Arri -- with pin registration., Bolex 16 ? eh, not so much

Well...this is way further along than the Digital Bolex, they are still trying to get an in body prototype together...still changing the design, pretty far off from the posts on their forum. Also, this has a very nice color monitor vs black and white, HD-SDI (not sure if D Bolex are going to try it or not....they've flip flopped on it) and more options for what your final ouput will be, plus this camera has an elegant interface...the D Bolex, by design will be more old school.

What I'm most excited for about this camera is the 13 stops of DR. I love my F3, but I have always said if I could get the F3's dynamic range in a DSLR size body (I prefer the DSLR style over video camera style), I'd be ecstatic. It's not 13.5 but it's close enough. Add to the fact that it has the extra resolution (I'm perfectly happy with 1080p for now), accepts SSD drives, large screen, and comes with Resolve and it's only $3000... I paid $1600 for my Samurai, and if you add Resolve that's $2600 right there. I can't wait to see some more footage.

It has an almost inbuilt Samurai...(Melbourne based company as well by some one who worked with BMD... Hmmmm...something in that water down under)
With so many posts in only few hours one would hope that you guys have a strong server that doesn't go in a melt down.

Indeed, I'm happier with the Super 16mm size sensor of the D16, lots of very good old glass made just for that format.

The 5 Megapixel Fujinon's are looking best for the D16 and maybe good for Blackmagic Cinema Camera also with a EF to C-Mount adapter, from 25mm up of course.

Haha, so let's say the recorder is worth $1k and the software is worth $1k and we go with an electronic adapter for around $750 (average the Metabones and possible Birger cost). You are basically getting the camera part for $250 :)

I mean, think about not having to have an external recorder alone? I think that's part of the point of why people are really liking this camera. You get RAW in the camera at 12-bit. Not bad, not bad at all.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I hope they're going to offer a battery solution straight from their own brand. I would rather buy into that system than have to fish around for lowest prices on power options.

TV Logic EVF is gonna pair with this here mini-titan quite nicely I'd say. HD-SDI in and pass-through out? Mmhmm.

If you guys have any questions, go on over to the thread that Jason posted and let Stephen and Luis see them so they can ask while they're there!

Anything that can't be answered by looking at the site.

Right. It doesn't look like real LOL ;)

Battery alternative is something really to see... It seems to come integrated and autonomy is minimal. Workarounds oblige.

I think the other thing that's sort of exciting people is that it's a well known company, with plenty of solid history behind it, stepping into territory where they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. There were some other companies like this, particularly one, but the more I think about it the more this makes...

Well.. more sense than that other company. The post Workflow, the understanding of what makes things "cinematic", and the focus on the most important aspects of delivering an image. Right down to it being machined out of a single block.

=] I hope I can get a cool zebra skin for it, like an iPhone case. or a durable rubber case. xD

By the way, that's a great question to ask... how's the weather proofing on this thing ?

Yeah, like Barry says... No free lunch.

I can't wait to read what Barry has to say about this!

With the "integrated" battery, I guess it cooks for 90 minutes then I'm looking for A/C? I even carry a second battery for my laptop. This does sound like the perfect camera for location green screen work. Two Female XLR to 1/4" balanced male 3' cables is all that's needed to fix the audio inputs? I'm dusting off the CC...

Oooooh also, here's another question: how does the battery charge? Meaning does it draw from the 12v external source regardless of what it's plugged into? Or is there a speciality charger specifically for the battery, and then the 12v port's there for external power only?

I could see some working flaws with it being the first way, namely if the battery just tanks altogether, then you can't power the darn thing.

I'm most excited about the touch screen data logging function! Hahaha labelling takes would be so much fun...

I'll ask them about battery tomorrow, but I'm guessing it's like the Hyperdeck.

On the Hyperdeck the internal battery charges from the external charger or any other 12v source. I run mine from the IDX bricks and the internal acts like an onboard UPS - no need to stop the recorder to change batteries. I hope it works this way as well.

I'll confirm tomorrow.

Indeed, Kholi. This is the best camera for education/training purposes granted the price. It is 12-bit RAW!
