Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

The footage that is posted online looks pretty fantastic. On vimeo, it is almost indistinguishable from super 16. These are very exciting times.

I think the fact they were able to pull this thing together should make us all very excited about what they COULD put up beyond this little camera. Obviously they have the chops to do it, so I'm just as excited about what could be.
Well, this is a smaller-format sensor, and there seems to be no shortage of them from which to choose. S35 -- and especially 4K -- doesn't have too many choices. There's the CMOSIS CMV12000, which is a $1,300 sensor. It has a global shutter and can do 180 fps at 12 bits. Unfortunately, its dynamic range in normal mode is probably only about 10 stops, although in HDR mode (using a double readout) it supposedly can do 90 dB, or roughly 15 stops.

Another alternative is Panavision Imaging's Dynamax-35 Ultra. I don't think it has a global shutter, but otherwise its specs are amazing. Unfortunately, it costs thousands.

Glad I got a TVlogic :) The HDMI passthrough will come in handy big time now. Good thing for BMD they make a converter huh? Planned you think? :P

This is probably the most revolutionary digital camera release ever and it's just a start. BMD will soon take over the cinema camera industry. I can't imagine what a 20k camera from them would have. Probably everything you'd want and then more.

In a perfect world you could buy this camera, and then through a firmware purchase, or upgrade get higher frame rates.

If this was the plan, I would be sold on this camera.

And that's the kicker for me. It's compressed footage, 7 minutes, with the foresight of being watched by thousands of people.

THe raw must be pretty insane.

I will use the hyperdeck shuttle with the Marshall monitor attached. Feeling dizzy today, first joy at an update for my ag af101...disappointed and cynical of Panasonic after announcement now unexpected twist in my favour as I have tons of great ef lens...sorry panny and birger..saving my money to give to bmd! Hooray!

Easy there Bronco! lol! World Peace here we come! lol!

I'm sure we're all excited....and I can't wait to get my hands on this thing (some time in Dec by the time manufacturing catches up with sales, maybe later who knows).....but there is a long way to go. If anyone can do it, they're one of the best candidates I've seen yet.

That said....I'm looking forward to the "backlash" that should follow in about 2 years (as long as we all buy these things like tic-tacs)...where the big 3 are FORCED to compete. We've all known that they've been holding back, and now, Black Magic is proving it! I wonder what Canon, Sony, and Panny will release in 2 years to compete?

I like where they're going with this concept. REALLY LIKE it...

BUT as far as I can tell, no 3D options, not 4K or beyond, capped at 30fps, not S35 sensor size, least important not so hot for timelapses...

not "revolutionary" here except 2 HUGE pluses:
small price and form factor, with decent workflow.

I'll keep my eyes open for Generation 2 with hopefully 4K,
it seems then it would be a decent crash or B Cam for a Red / Sony / Arri / Canon

Seems like a great pricepoint for indie movie production TODAY, and glad they
LISTEN to the Indie community for a low cost RAW 1080p solution.

I hope GoPro responds with a nice 3D 4K complement to this...

We are truly spoiled at this NAB with awesome options, this is a great little RAW cam
and nothing like it for the price and size...

Regarding Mac format, I wonder if exFAT will suffice. I've been formatting all my new external drives as exFAT rather than NTFS so that I can be compatible w/ both my Windows desktop and Macbook. Maybe that could be a workaround for the internal SSD?

As for the BMD cam:
I'll keep shooting on my hacked GH2 and wait for generation 2: s35 sensor size. I'm still excited about this (the hardware is sound, that GUI is amazing and the value-adds are incredible). The future is now...

Same specs with super35 sensor and 60p and double the price and I'd buy in a heartbeat. Unreal looking specs just not that stoked on the small sensor size even though I love shooting on super16.

It's larger than S16.

But yeah, battery life just put a damper on everything for me. You need V-Mounts to power it, so the price just shot up another 400-500 at the very least as far as I can remember.

THen you need to mount that, so you're talking support gear.

I can hear Barry's words echoing in my head now....

"There's no free lunch... the FS100 is ugly... there's no free lunch... the FS100 is ugly"

Kinda like that episode of the Simpsons where Lisa needs Braces.
