FEATURE: blackhats - Another Reel One Entertainment Movie

Wow.

Been a while since I've been here.

Got laid off form my day job. Out of work there for a while. I found a way better one thankfully and am just getting settled in.

However, progress has been slow on post for blackhats

The trailer is screening at local theaters while we continue the VFX work. We have a good team together but the work is more than we expected.

Will keep you updated. Feeling good about the results though.

Great. Thanks for the update.

Also haven't been on the forum for sometime. This thread truly puts the time it takes to make a feature into perspective though. Especially if it isn't your full time job.

Indeed. It makes it hard when it is not your only job.

Much of the VFX work is being supervised by an industry pro who works on movies like Man of Steel, Oz the Great and Powerful, and others and he puts in his normal day job of VFX work on those studio projects and then works with our VFX team after that.

His dedication is inspiring to me personally and it's what keeps me motivated.

We could have gone without much of these VFX and the movie would still "play" for the most part.

However, we decided to do more in that department and have to be patient as without an enormous VFX budget to have this team completely dedicated to them, it simply takes time.

The results are great thus far.

However, that said, we should be nearing completion fairly soon.

Wow. Long road maybe close to the end. Starting our ADR sessions and only a few scenes needing it which is very encouraging.

Likely another project to announce soon too.

Anyway, we will get blackhats completed :)

ADR? Yall must have won the lottery. Are you doing post at ILM and Lucas Studios also? Kidding. I'd like to hear more about the trials and tribe of indie ADR. Glad to see you are still moving over there.

Keep pushing through it. That's Michael Mann directing, yea, so that means the movie will be at least $80M-$100M, the characters in his movie are going to over talk the computer hacker language to the point where the movie will be so over-the-top on "facts" ...so much that the story gets lost just like the overtly cop talk in Miami Vice (the movie). Public Enemies was another one that focused so hard on the facts that the story was underwhelming even with my man Johnny Depp as lead. Outside of Thor, Chris Hemsworth is solid, but nobody you'd trip over your friends to go rush to see in the theater.

You're the little guy and if your movie can make a strong splash on the indie level it will see the day of light with meaningful distribution which is where you want to be at the minimum.
 
You know you are going in the right direction when this happens. But you're right. The machine is taking what they want at your expense. Time for rebranding now. Keep that title in wraps. But you can't stop now.
 
On the bright side, our IMDB meter has shot up in the last week, so it's gotten us some attention there.

We've gotten a lot of sales reps beating down our door at the moment. Hope we can get direct distributors knocking next.

Wish us luck...hope we can finish soon. Post has been a nightmare with delays.

Keep your eyes on the prize. It'll work out. Just put a little fire under you all. Tighten the post up and see what you can get out of it. Great idea evidently.

I am trying to do a campaign called "Show us your #blackhats" The idea is that you send a picture of yourself or someone wearing a black hat of some sort (more creative the better) and preferably link it to something (for example, I wore an Atlanta Faclons black hat in honor of @AtlantaFalcons) to include in the post. I will retweet it and hopefully other will as well. Please be sure to include the #blackhats (with an s at the end) hashtag.

As we ramp it up, we'll include release information with the Show us your #blackhats postings.

So, if you've got pics with #blackhats shoot them to either myself or @blackhatsmovie and they will be retweeted and favorited.
