Black Swan - Aranofsky's next!

Most of Ryder's parts lately seem to be little. Although she has something coming out with Vince Vaughn in which her role looks like maybe a bit more than third-row supporting.

The handheld made me dizzy . I can appreciate it to a certain point. Wanted to see more of the BlackSwan ! Love the last 30 minutes.Portman is great.
Wish we could see more of Winona Ryder...funny though how some people who do worst thing over and over again can still end up in the spotlight while others don't !

I really got a huge cinematic kick out of this film. It was constantly intense in some way, really drawing me in like no film has been able to in a long time. It almost reminded me a bit, at least atmospherically, of Eyes Wide Shut. There was always this tinge of something isn't right under the surface, yet it didn't go all out and shove the horror elements in the viewer's face like so many so-called horror films do these days.

Really effective film though. I think Black Swan and Inception are a tie for my favorite film of the year.

The opening camera work blew my mind.

Hell yes. Me too.

I wish certain scenes were a bit more graphic, but I guess if I want a cheap thrill I'll keep watching those "steamy French erotic thrillers" on Netflix.:grin:

Stupid America with our uptight rules and standards.

Anyone feel like this was "The Wrestler Part II: for Girls!"?

Ha ha, that's a good one. I have heard Black Swan referred to as the "companion piece" to the Wrestler.

Surprised this thread has so few responses based on the buzz surrounding this film.

Fahad, of the two, my vote is for the Wrestler. Not that I have any real interest in wresting, besides a brief facination with WWF in the early 90's. In certain scenes, I felt like I was "there", IE at the deli counter, or the VFW hall. They really nailed the "has-been" vibe. And believe me, from what I've experienced so far, getting old can suck. :-Laugh(DBG)-1

Back to the Black Swan, as I mentioned two posts up, some of it comes across as a trashy Euro drama. Only if it were a trashy Euro drama, you would have seen more explicit activity on screen. I guess the filmmakers and actors couldn't "let themselves go" all the way.

This is a good film, but it's no Tron: Legacy.

:beer::beer::Drogar-Love(DBG)::Drogar-Love(DBG)::grin::grin:

But isn't Black Swan technically a totally different genre than The Wrestler (psychological thriller vs. drama)?

You're not the only one drawing comparisons, Fahad. They may be different genres, but both films deal with the physical & emotional tolls these activities (sports?) take on one's body and mental health.
"Sport? Dude, wrestlings not a sport. It's all fake, man."

Aranofsky has always been a big influence of mine, and this film did not disappoint. It's definitely not for everyone, but my GF and I absolutely loved it.

I just love films that push boundaries yet keep an engaging storyline throughout. Despite being a bit disturbed at times, it still wowed me.

Spoilers!

My absolute favorite scene was the Black Swan performance, seeing her go through the transformation on the stage, her arms turning into wings into the final pose... beautiful. Like others have said, the last 30 minutes were wonderful.

Trailer for Darren Aranofsky's next film, set in the world of ballet dancers. Looks like a version of a story I've seen before (the star threatened by the young understudy), but seems interesting nonetheless. What is going on with Natalie Portman's back?

The The movie is an instant classic. Very grainy for my tastes, but excellent performances by all. Portman should win the Oscar, no questions asked. Fantastic movie.

wow just seen the film and loved it. Portman was brilliant and the dark tone and feel Aranofsky created was very well done.

loved the hallucinations you really don't know whats real and what isn't.

I agree the last 30 mins were stunning.

Yep wonderful, loved it, was it 2hrs?

Ladies in the audience relived their child ballet classes and early orgasms* .. a couple were quietly sobbing that they didn't get treated like that, tear stained faces at the exit.

Portman to get best actress and VFX to win also.

Looked hard at Nina in 'That 70s Show' hasn't aged a bit. *no offence.

I enjoyed it however I thought it suffered from several narrative structure problems. You learn very little about the characters other than that Portmans character wants to be a great dancer, that her mum is a bit nuts and that the instructor likes to **** alot and as a result I felt detached from the characters and felt like I was watching a dark Kafka adaptation where by im watching her metamorphosis but not feeling like anything is at stake.

There were sooo many plot lines which were not explored, like her relationship with her mother, with sex, boys, the other girls and her not eating. The film just felt shallow IMHO well made but very two dimensional and shallow.

Dang. While nobody was looking, this movie grossed 270 million worldwide off a 13 million dollar budget. Maybe there is hope for independent film.

Movie has all aspects of emotional drama and impressive shots are made. Well, the performance of actors has made it successful.

Although I liked the film, especially the last dance sequence, am I the only one who thought there was TOO MUCH hand held camera work? Wouldn't the subjective point of view have had greater impact had it been contrasted with more static or at least non-hand held shots? Balancing the subjective and objective points of view successfully can be a difficult thing to achieve...

just my 2 cents worth...

No, I personally don't think so. If there had been a more objective view, it might have been misconstrued that an attack was being committed on Nina from without, and that would have built a totally different sort of suspense and horror. As it was, it was important to imply the attack happening from within.
