Hi Guys,

was looking at the Atoms Ninja Blade vs The Video Assist,

I know the video assist does not do the pulldown like the blade but is it a matter of doing it in premiere > change to progressive?

I like the fact it records to SD Cards and the screen resolution is higher.

Any input would be great,

Thank you all.

I'd look a little closer at it before pulling the trigger. I got the VA when it came out but returned it. They've added some features since then, but one of the big drawbacks that still remains is the lack of color adjustment on the monitor. You can't really use it as a good judge of what you're shooting.

That's a pity :/ Is there waveform?

Hi

No waveform or false colour. And no pulldown.

However in the short time since launch there have been 2 FW updates providing both promised features and wished-for features. There are a lot of requests on the BMD forum for colour adjustment, waveforms and pulldown to be added and I have to say that given the speed with which they fixed the various GH4-related issues I wouldn't be surprised to see these items addressed sooner rather than later.

In use it's a lovely little piece of kit that overall is probably the best you can get for the money.

Two LP-E6 batteries aren't going to power this thing nearly as long as, say, two Sony NP-F batteries will power the Ninja Blade. That, and the weird colors, and the fan noise, and the lack of pulldown are the reasons why I went with the Ninja Blade for my C100. But I did make sure to hook one up to my camera before making that decision, and the one area where the Video Assist shines is the 1080P display. You can focus with this monitor, no peaking necessary. So it depends on what's most important to you.

I've been trying to decide on the same thing. Ninja Blade or Video Assist. I like the SD card recording mainly, over needing to carry around a bunch of SSDs and a drive dock, etc. but it is really hard to figure out which is more ideal, especially considering that there may be some solid updates to the VA in the near future.

Me too. As well as the SD card the thing I'm drawn to is being able to record at 60 fps.

Does The VA use 60fps? Is the pull down done in premiere pro??

Decisions hmmm seems a good monitor too

Yes to both. The VA via HDMI from the C100 MKII is 60 fps and pulldown is automatic in PP when dropped in a 24p timeline.

so what do you think guys, The Black Magic View Assist?

If the pulldown is literally go into adobe and change it to progressive that is easy for me to do.

Thanks

Does anyone knows if it's noisy when used just as a monitor? (no recording) As a monitor with this resolution and price nothing comes close really.

Has the new software brought more options to adjusting the display? The original version I tried was severely limited.

I don't think so, still just brightness and contrast and saturation and you really have to turn down the contrast to avoid seeing clipped levels that aren't there.
