Black Magic PocketHD and 4K production camera

"For audio you get 1/4” jack mic/line inputs plus 12V to 30V DC input, a 3.5mm headphone socket and LANC remote control. And with a built-in uncompressed audio recorder you can eliminate post audio synching altogether."

really?

I just ordered 2 - these will replace my GH2….
Eventually I will get the 4K version. But 99% of my work goes to web or DVD.
I have done a few spots that are showing in theaters. Have not produced a TV spot in 4 years.

The pocket cam is using the same sensor as the original BMC, so there will be rolling shutter and some aliasing issues...unless they've made tweaks.

Looking a bit more at this, I don't think the BMPC will necessarily nix the GH3 from my upgrade thoughts...
Apparent advantages:
BM PocketCC - 13 stops DR, onboard PR422HQ and RAW, smaller S16 sensor allows use of available wide-range and/or servo S16 lenses (and likely some small 16mm lenses), ~$400 cheaper
GH3 - full unequivocated m43/43 lens compatability, 50/60p, (likely) better sensitivity, vastly superior controls, weather sealing, multiple levels of available compressed recording for long shoots, useable for stills, internal intervalometer, better contact surface for a tripod plate, strap attachment grommets, better handheld ergonomics

Of course either may have significant other advantages or disadvantages I haven't discovered yet... looking at how close-packed everything is on the "BMPCC," I'm hopeful that it won't have rampant overheating problems... perhaps those are alleviated by that aluminum heat sink within which it resides.

Intriguing choices.

Pretty sure pocket isn't global.
Even the benevolent Black Magic has to differentiate product lines somehow.

Anyone else been in this business a long time & really getting fatigued with all these new products? It's hard to keep up.

Heck, I've only been in the business 5 years and am already suffering new product fatigue :D How the heck can I reasonably justify buying any camera?

With the Pocket CC, BMCC arguably just obsolesced their MFT BMCC which itself arguably obsolesced their EF BMCC, and did all that within the space of a year while barely producing any of them!

Yeah..I agree, lol. The production issues scare me. This Pocket Cam is super cool, but until I can hit a button that says WILL SHIP IN 7-10 days, I'm not going to bite. I know that means I will probably never get one, but the idea of waiting and waiting and waiting is not something that suits my impatient personality, ha ha ;)
