Black Magic PocketHD and 4K production camera

I'm taking these one sentence camera spec announcements with a grain of salt. I think I've learned that there is a lot more that goes into a camera than a short, incomplete list of specs. Clearly there are sacrifices a manufacturer has to make to endeavor into what is now a "spec war" of sorts to camera announcements.

The pocket cinema cam is not a cinema cam just because they used the word cinema. I'm interested to see what frame rates the pocket cam records, what the data rate is, what range iso, shutter angle, battery life, audio recording [if any] info first, not to mention the rolling shutter effects. I'm sure smarter people could name a lot more items they need to know than me.

It sounds good - but it's incomplete. I wonder why m4/3 mount w s16? Won't that limit how wide you can go?

There is no datarate it records directly to ProRes. Some of the other items are valid concerns but these people are not idiots either. Will there be limitations? Of course but then again the GH3 costs as much but it has to do so much more. If you are looking for the perfect camera at $995.00 I am afraid you will be looking for a very long time. Any camera is going to have compromises. Some people thought the first BM cinema camera was too good to be true. Sure it has its faults but from those that have used it it looks like one heck of a camera.

I think the m4/3 active mount is a good choice for the pocket cam...if you look at Barry Green's chart and compare S16 to an AF100, it seems to be a good trade off. For the ability of mounting widely available lenses that will talk with the camera. In Blooms review of the m4/3 version of the original BMC, he thought it was a good match as well.

Markertek lies about the place you are in. I was supposedly in first place to get the BMCC EF, then I realized from this forum and others 3 people received theirs before me. I then switched to MFT, and they said I'm number 2. We'll see about that.

Perfect...Just Perfect!

Thank you very much

Well said. I personally am not expecting a perfect cam. I'm not expecting anything, just the rest of the information, really. I do think everyone has a certain feature or spec that they can't live without though. I'm eager to learn what shortcut/sacrifice [I don't mean that in a negative way] was taken to get the camera at the price it is listed at.

On the pocket cam - I agree with waiting to see what cards will be needed, what the battery will be like....practical things. The camera will not be for everybody. It's not going to be a king of low light or ultra wide shooting, and will probably have a fairly pronounced rolling shutter. But at $995, for what it CAN do....it appears to be amazing.

1/8" mic in. Headphone out. Seems like just as good of audio as from any DSLR at least. Sounds like full electronic control of M4/3 lenses as well. How quickly it does so will have to be seen but nice move. I'm talking about the pocket cam of course. Seems like a great match or alternative to DSLRs if one only ever intends on using them for video. Since I also like to shoot stills I will want to keep a good DSLR around as well.

Finally got a text only version to show up about the pocket cam front page. None of the other pages are live yet like tech specs. Why do they insist on pushing their live site one page at a time?
