BIRGER adapter for F3, when?

You must have seen a rubbish lens because some of the fast 'L' series glass looks amazing? In fact I'm a bit surprised Sony haven't sponsored an adaptor themselves. It would have been another easy way to compete with the C300 EF and RED Scarlet EF options.

I hope Birger's military contracts are good because they're totally screwing up potential commercial sales. Maybe it's not a market they're really bothered about? We'll have all moved onto the F5 before they get an F3 adaptor out!

Have you seen what these guys are doing for the NEX?

I hear a rumour that they are going to do one for the FS100 but If they also adapted it for the F3 they'd clean up....

Actually, one user who got in on the first batch confirmed it does work with the FS100. That said, I think they are focusing on the still camera side with the E-mount from the beginning. I think the FS100 is just a lucky situation that they used the same mount.

Ahh - that makes sense. Lets hope they do an F3 version!

I'd recommend contacting them after the Chinese New Year (they are out of the office for a week), and let them know your interest. I've spoken with them on many occasions and they are very nice to talk with.

I think we need to stop thinking Birger will ever get the adapters together. They had more than a year to get something on the market and that tells me they are unable to deliver.

Well i've seen what a Canon lens looks like on an F3 , with a simple adapter, and you will be better served by another solution. It's a waste of a great sensor to put a weak piece of glass on this camera.

What were you smoking at the time?
Don't do it again, it's too strong for you...

Kidding aside, I still wish this adapter will become reality since there is no proper solution on the market yet. Last announcement from Birger was promising (with no wires sticking out of the adapter as being powered from with in the camera). Well, to bad...

I canceled my pre-order with Rule Boston around the beginning of the year. At that time they said Birger had told them it would be at least another 8 weeks. But of course, 8 weeks in Birger-speak is like 8 months. Minimum. I liked the C300 when I got to play with it in person, and I just ordered one. The codec is a little better for doc-style shooting, which is mostly what I do. F3 would have been nice though for studio shoots with PL glass. Now I'm really hoping for C300 adapters that will allow at least some PL lenses to work with it.

Well...I called Birger today. And what they told me was the mount would be ready for NBA this year. Isn't that what they said last year??? I understand there is a lot of hard work involved building this mount. However, I for one want a good product but it doesn't have to be perfect. Just has to work. They must not understand this and frankly I don't care about them anymore. Harsh but true. I agree with what people are saying. Guess we should forget about Birger. On that note. Has anyone tried the Live lens mount from Red rock? I emailed them and the gave me a link to a 3rd party mount that would work with the F3 and attached to the liveLens. The company that sells the mount is SMARTSYTEMS in Italy. Sounds good and ready to order this. Any comments would be great!

It was too good to be true, after all... I moved on... Zeiss with Contax mount will be my primes on F3, when there is no budget for Cinema Zeiss CPs...

Hey. Thanks for the info on MTF. Not sure thats the way I wanna go either. I'm not thrilled about this box that has to be attached. I under stand the concept of interchangeable lens mounts with this box but it seams very cumbersome. I like the size of the red rock mount. Yes,there has to be a battery box attached, but that can be worked out. But it's Red rock and MTF is a good company with great products. Just want to see if anyone out there has any experience with the red rock mount

I have not talked with the Birger people yet, but Sony had the Birger mount again here at NAB in their booth. It didn't work and still no word on a release. Looks like it will be a button up and down with 1/3 stop increments. So no smooth iris movements. I will be talking with Birger on Tuesday and post more. It is really a shame that we cannot take advantage of the nice Canon glass that is out there. On a second note Canon seems to be fully in on the video side. The C500 footage looks great and the lenses to be released later in the year should be great.

Sony has been mute on most questions I have asked. Like where are the good lenses for the F3?

Ouch, I already forgot about Birger... Now, you reminded me again. I will be sad all over again when I look at my Canon primes...

Any news from NAB?

I talked with the Birger folks today and they did have a working pre-production unit at their booth. They said that they expect the mount to be available in 4 to 8 weeks. They did not have the finished mount yet, but the focus wheel did control the iris and focus. But it sounded as if the actual unit will control iris on the mount and not the focus wheel. Price will be $1000 for the focus wheel and $800 for the mount.

I little too pricy for me and not super friendly people when I started asking more technical questions.

They said that they expect the mount to be available in 4 to 8 weeks.
LOL - they said that to me around september 2011 !!!
Don't hold your breath - funny thing is, they'll never realise the size of the potential market they completely missed...
