Of course, but a 'vacationing' Mod winning the Fest and taking home expensive prizes will always look bad. Sorry, it just will. You also have to remember how this will look as this festival gets larger and receives more attention. Big festivals probably don't allow people working for the festival to take home top prizes, not monetary ones anyway.

In the end, do I really care? Not really.

If you want people to honestly respond to this query then run a poll and allow the members to vote anonymously.

Either way, I'm glad that you guys run these festivals and I plan on entering yet again.
With or without prizes. :)

So as I have said for the last year now. I am super excited about this festival and I am going to enter it....for real this time haha. I am however going to wait until after exams to start a film thread...just to be safe.
 
There appears to be a contradiction in the Rules, or in any event could I get a clarification

"EXCEPTION: You MAY post screen grabs from your footage. You MAY also post stills or video of BEHIND THE SCENES b-roll and interviews of your cast and crew in the form of a documentary, podcast, etc. However, NO fictional elements that encompass or extend the narrative of your film are permitted – this includes a restriction on behind the scenes footage of actual takes. "

"CONCERNING TRAILERS/TEASERS
If you wish to make a teaser/trailer for your film, you may BUT... It may NOT contain any live action footage of any kind WHATSOEVER. Whether from your film or not. Absolutely NO live action footage. So, think of it more as a teaser than a trailer."

How is posting video of BTS or cast interviews not unlike a trailer, and if I can post a cast interview, why couldn't I put that in a trailer?
 
As you know, a conventional trailer is constructed exclusively from footage shot for the motion picture it is advertising. Our trailer rule says that no live action motion footage can be used in any trailer for your short during this fest (basically, you CAN'T make a genuine trailer as we know them). "of any kind" means no footage shot for your short whether its used in the final cut or not, or even if it's something shot specifically for a trailer using elements such as characters, props or expanded story elements from your short. No live action footage in any trailer/teaser marketing piece is allowed. Of the elements that are conventionally found in a trailer, you could use screen shots/frame grabs in place of moving footage, title cards, voice-over and music from your score. that's about as close as you can get.

Now, the "exception" you highlighted refers to BEHIND THE SCENES and if you choose to do a small documentary about making your film, or to interview your star, or to do "set reports", that's fine as long as that piece abides by the same rules we have about posting in your thread – no footage from your short, no outtakes, and no BTS of an actual take.

Personally, I think the trailer rule is so limiting as to make cutting one ineffective as a marketing tool. much more value could be culled from connecting with your potential audience by giving them a glimpse into how your mini-epic came to be in a BTS doc.

But I do see where you're getting tripped up. The trailer rule says no live action footage of any kind whatsoever but the behind the scenes rule makes some allowances for b-roll and interviews. Just consider that if you were planning to use behind the scenes footage in a "trailer" it would cease to be a trailer and become a documentary of its making, regardless of how slickly produced it is.
 
if i make a second film for this would i have to make a second thread? I had to ideas coming into this and then read the rules and i can enter a second but wanted to know if i had to make a second thread for this one too?
 
best to keep everything separate. that way production notes and reviews dont get mixed up. you know what you;re talking about and so do we.
 
thanks rodney always there to help..... well once i start working on it i'll make a thread for it. I just didn't wanna seem like cluttering everything up by having two threads.

I guess you are referring to the "pitch" process that we tried for questfest. If so, the answer is no. We tried it and it served none of it's intended purposes, and only made a few people think we were starting to try to keep people out of the festival.

So, definitely NO :)

Just make your movie.

"Film Title - you must include the title of your film in your film. This may be in any format and may appear anywhere within the 6 minutes of the film."

Does this mean a title card, or do we have to have a line of dialogue/ etc that says the Title?

Probably a dumb question, but I just want to clarify before I post my thread.
