Wasup guys I shoot Music Video's and also starting to get into the Porn business, I have a canon 7D and the T2i, Thinking about selling my T2i and picking up the 6D just because I purchased the T2i 3days ago and the 6D is right around the corner, I purchased the t2i but the guy from J&R said the T2i was good for recording because it could shoot Wider then the 7D, and I had no idea about the 6D, but anyway what do u guys think I should do about the T2i and the 6D or just keep the T2i ?

But main topic I keep hearing about the zeiss lens, my friend told me to pick this one up for Wider shoots

http://www.amazon.com/Zeiss-Super-W...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1283157655&sr=1-3

and he told me pick this one up for Regular shoots.

http://www.amazon.com/Zeiss-1-4-Pla...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1283160399&sr=1-2

Please help and what do you guys think ? Thanks alot guys this forum seems cool and Im pretty sure ill be able to learn alot from u guys.

Welcome to dvxuser...

First of all the J&R rep was incorrect. The t2i and 7d have the same sensor.

On the t2i that 21mm will equate to 33mm (field of view) because of the 1.6 crop factor. you will have to decide if that is wide enough for you.

that 85mm equates to a 136mm on the t2i. WAY 2 long for a "normal" lens. Normal lens would be a 35mm which would equate to 56mm.

Jambredz is exactly correct. Furthermore, based on you questions, I'd suggest that at this stage those lenses would be an awful match to you and your work.

If you've got cash -- go back and ask about "Canon L" lenses. Otherwise, look into lenses that will work with the electronic functions (focus, metering, etc.) of your camera. Sigma lenses are great, many people swear by Tamron, etc.

I own both of those Zeiss lenses (Nikon mount, we use them with a Letus), and you're in for a world of pain if you go that route -- especially if you're not experienced in photography/cinematography.

All I've ever wanted to do in life is produce porn -- and somehow, no matter what I do, I always end up in negotiations with a PBS channel over an historical documentary. So -- I wish you well as you pursue my dream. The best I can do for you is tell you the truth -- that you aren't ready for those lenses, and if you buy them you'll end up frustrated and with results that you won't like.

Regarding the 60D -- there are never ending discussions about that on this forum. I wouldn't bother with it -- but there are two thousand other people who will do what you propose, after which they'll swear on this forum that the 60D is the best Canon V-DSLR.

I agree. If you've never shot with a DSLR before then these aren't for you. The glass and build quality is pretty amazing on this series but they aren't the cine lenses that Ziess is famous for.

here's a video I shot the first day I had my hands on the 21mm and it's not really that great. I was using it for photos and decided at the last minute to film so there is nothing good about the lighting, etc... It's handheld and focus is pretty much and infinity.

for the money, I'd rather go with a Sigma 20mm f1.8 or Canon 24mm f1.4

For what your doing i would suggest a sigma 24-70 at f/2.8

its easily in your budget and would replace both those lenses. I dont know if you need to spend as much as those Zeiss lenses. The longer one could work for a portrait style lens possibly but when im shooting run and gun type stuff (not quite the stuff you shoot but still) I find fixed focal length lenses to be very limiting and time consuming.

Agreed. There's some very good reasons why zoom lenses were developed. Primes are faster and usually of higher quality, but they add dramatically to the amount of time you need to execute your overall production.

except of course, when you need a fast lens :)

Yeah, and when I need the quality of the lens and the more dramatic smaller DOF then i go for my primes but i cant imagine that you have much time to switch out lenses when shooting the subject matter he is. It would seem like that is a rather fleeting medium thus calling for a more run and gun

Also so you guys are saying I shouldnt get the the Zeiss lens until Im more experienced? So What Lens are great for Shoot Music Videos and short Films ? Also What is good for the Porn ? And for me there really isnt a buget when your doing what you like to do. But im looking to spend $1500 - $3000 per Lens if I have too.

Thanks guys I really appreciate all of the feed back. Here's a Couple of stuff me and my guys shot.

there's some weird ghosting in both those vids...what is that?...but they were cool. good editing, in my opinion.

but ultimately, i was expecting porn. ahh well.

i'd check out the canon 17-55 or tamron 17-50. it'll give you a decent zoom range and should be plenty wide and fast for most of your applications. those are both constant f2.8 lenses, so the exposure won't change as you zoom. i'm assuming what the salesman meant by the t2i is wider, is that it is normally kitted with the 18-55, whereas the 7d is normally kitted with a 28-135. 18 is wider than 28; but with the same lenses, the cameras produce nearly identical results. you could also check out the canon 24-70 f2.8 or 24-105 f4 IS. those will both give you a little more zoom reach, but they don't go as wide, and the only one that has stabilization is slower. i really believe the canon 17-55 is one of the best lenses for crop bodies.
