Best Western Film...

I think you should put your chaps on, your hat, your six guns and sit down to watch at least one western a week. Make it a Friday night in honor of "Rawhide" Clint Eastwood's first job. Then write a review on Saturday morning. We will all comment, you will get educated on westerns, and the world will become complete:thumbsup:

John, I hope you do it! I absolutely love the genre. Not only do the good western flicks have whisky, cards, hot chicks in tight saloon girl outfits, but the best westerns have some of the most kick-assl scores. i.e. E. Morricone....

Add to that, these lists are great. Sometimes I keep seeing the same flick over and over again...and if its a flick I havent seen yet (i.e OPEN RANGE ), it's like, "okay, okay, now i gotta go rent it."

great lists, rick:beer: and zack:beer:

Thanks to you and this WESTERN list Callaghan, I am probably going to wind up sitting my arse in front of a great western this weekend (probably Open Range...I haven't seen it yet) and chow down on a big bowl of stew!

If you haven't seen it yet, let me recommend Tom Horn starring Steve McQueen.

You know what Blaine, I haven't seen it yet. And I LOVE Steve McQueen. Tell you what, why don't you pick something off of my list that you haven't seen (If there is anything off my list you haven't seen) and rent it and I will definitely do the same....

So, Tom Horn and Open Range. I might just pick up a third and make it a marathon...

Rick, I've seen everything on your list, and with the exception of two movies on your honorable mention list, think they are all excellent choices.

Fair enough! Well, I will rent Tom Horn this weekend and watch it during my marathon and let you know what I think of it.

hey what movie had Bruce Dern and Kirk Douglas playing off each other where Dern plays the outlaw and Douglas plays the sheriff with a mob of deputys? great movie or maybe a tv movie.

Sounds like Will Penny...

Blaine i'm surprised, i thought you would know. Heston was Will Penny. great little movie; dern plays the outlaw and kirk plays the sheriff who brings him in, and then he is going for gov. or mayor of the territory. but dern takes the sheriff hostage and damands the deputys to take the money from the bank and makes the deputys outlaws like himself anyways good story!

Man, I don't know what happened there. I was thinking KD and somehow shifted to Heston...

I need to invest a solid year in playing catch up; actually seeing these films in widescreen glory and not KTLA Channel 5 full frame crap.

That's funny. I lived in Southern Cali for 8 years and man does that bring back memories. I hope to God that ridiculously goofy morning news team is still not there...always laughing at their own stupid jokes as if their ribbing of each other is funnier than it really is. Mark Kriski with that fake deep announcer voice. And that Sam Rubin guy...man I couldn't stand him...he was like that weasely kid in 7th grade with the book bag you wanted to trip. Just once, I'd like him to get through his schpiel without checking himself out in the monitor a dozen times...but, I digress...

Callaghan...thanks for this list. I will tell you, because of you and this thread, I went out last night and bought all the fixins for a big vat of STEW! 6 pounds of angus chuck beef goodness, potatoes, carrots, wine and herbs and spices. Tonight, I rent the movies. Tomorrow, its marathon-time baby!

By the way, I gotta tell you, I have never seen number 9 on your list, BANDOLERO! I clicked on your IMDB link and discovered that Rachel Welch is in it. Holy SMOKES! A 1968 Rachel Welch is worth my time for ANY rental. Holy...I was inspired to check out a recent picture of her...talk about holding up...

She is pushing 70 and this jimmy crack corn and I don't care. She is still way hot!

I'm surprised I couldn't find anyone who said "Deadman". Deadman is outstanding if you enjoy high budget independant films.
Outside of that all the old Sergio Leone Films are outstanding. Tombstone is alos a really good Hollywood Western.
