Hi Guys!

Anyone pull a clean matte with a Canon 7D? What's the best settings have you found for capturing footage on the green screen - with the given that the Screen is lit properly.

Just finishing a green-screen only project on the 7D (budget reasons). I have been using the Marvels Cine 3 for the past few months and I find it works better then any other color matrix out there. I love it. Pulled a fairly easy key in AE with Keylight. Went to 500 ISO, but wish I had stayed at 320.

As you mentioned really it comes down to the lighting of the green screen and talent. Make sure they are way off the screen as to reduce the amount of green spill onto the talent. That is very hard to correct back for with this footage.

But in reality, I don't think the outcome is good enough for an HD output. I am scaling down to SD for web distribution and it looks great, but 720p and 1080p are lost hopes IMO.

I did a very long post on techniques for getting good keys with the T2i...

But it's just not a very good keying camera and I assume the 7d/60d are about the same. The aliasing's a nightmare. You really need to design your shots to work around it.

I've seen a lot of posts here where people have swooned over their "awesome" keys, but I've seen few that really looked acceptable (there's a lot of kids just thrilled they're skateboarding in front of clouds or whatever, y'know, god love 'em). OK, beats the pants off a DVX, and at web resolution it can be pretty swanky.

BY THE WAY.... Mark Christiansen's latest after effects book for Cs5 has the most comprehensive section on KeyLight you're likely to find - lots of great tips, and a revamped workflow from his previous A.E. studio techniques book. Buy it, it's a must have for AE users.

Too many things are judged on webvideos. I work in an Online bay and when you get down to watching it on broadcast monitors, or even high end consumer monitors then you'll notice problems that you can't see on web.

That's why I never trust anyone's keys when they show it on the web, among other things too like color correction and moire.. the list goes on.
