best SD cards for T2i

I have been using an Adata 16GB card for over a year with my HMC150 (in rotation with a few other cards). It hasn't crapped out yet, so I guess it's just a gamble with them.

bad/good news on Patriot card for T2i

Apparently, people have been experiencing trouble with the Patriot cards on the T2i and other Canons, but the company responded with a firmware update. This is from a review on Newegg dated 4/19/10:

Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer,

We are sorry for any issues you are having with this card on the Canon 2Ti. If you haven't returned your car back to Newegg, we urge you to contact Support@Patriotmem.com to address this issue. We've updated a firmware in our class 10 SDHC cards that should enable it to have better compatibly with the Canon T2i cards.

Regards,
Patriot Memory Support Team

I got two Patriot 16gb SDHC cards for my T2i. I had corruption errors with Raw, 1080P video and Small Pictures. This scared the mess out of me and i'm going to try the firmware update + rigorous testing. I'll post my results up here. B&H just started selling a Delkin 16gb and they don't usually sell garbage. Either that or Panasonic, a company that has the lowest manufacturing defects in the world. Can't forget to mention the overpriced but always high quality Sandisk.

The Patriot LX Series (Class 10) were the only ones with a possible problem.

If you get the Iris Series (Class 6), these work perfectly with the Canon T2i. I bought a 32GB card last month for $105.00, works amazingly well, no issues whatsoever with 1080p video or taking pics in RAW.

You can't beat the price of these either... 32GB for $105 Cdn for the Iris, $118 for the Class 10 LX Series 32GB card.

I bought 2 SDHC CLASS 10 32 gig cards and they have been breaking down shooting video with the Canon T2i. Hours of footage has been lost with these cards... be warned.

Well now, here's a thing . . . .
I went looking on Warehouse Express's site and found Sandisk Extreme III cards, rated at 30MB/s and class 6, whereas Panasonic's Gold cards supposedly specifically for video rated 22MB/s given class 10 status.
The Panny cards are also a fair bit cheaper.
Now I'm wondering if that 30MB/s of the Sandisk is a burst speed, that can't be sustained (Not saying the sustained speed isn't still high) while the 22MB/s of the Panny is a sustained speed that can be kept up for long periods.
I'm thinking of getting 2 x 8 gig Pannys for the 550D I'm planning on buying.
Any comments?
Dave

As long as its class 6 would it matter if it records at 20mb/sec or 30mb/sec? Or I guess what I'm really asking is would spending the extra money for 30mb/sec be worth it or just a waste?

I've been using Transcend class six cards, 8 GB (I like the 8GB size, seems easier to manage my files when I get back to the desk). But shooting effects plates in the studio with no talent waiting around, I've stuck "whatever" card was in my bag, down to class 2 512k cards. No hiccups, no lost data.

{Edit - this is with a t2i, shooting 1080 and 720/60}

CARD TIP FOR BUSY SETS: I keep a roll of 3/4" blue painter's tape in my bag. Before a shoot, I initialize all my cards and charge all my batteries. I tape the card cases closed with a little strip of the tape, and also tape over my battery contacts. That way, no matter how fast things are going, I won't grab a card with new footage on it or a dead battery. If the tape's off, it's been used today.

Here is a question if anyone can respond. I have one sandisk 4gb class2, now i was told you can only use class 6 but i have been able to shoot video on the Class 2 and it works fine with playback and all the only thing i'm worried about is will i be able to import the footage to FCP? any help would be great.

As with all questions of this nature, the best answer is: test extensively.

That said, see my above post - I've used older class 2 cards of 512k, 1Gb and 2 GB with my D90 and my T2i with no trouble. Everything imports to FCP and AE just fine. (After transcoding to ProRes of course).

I have never used anything than class 4, and have never had an issue. Why spend the extra money if you don't need to?

I have had issues with 2 transcend class 6 cards. I recently picked up both a transcend class 10 and a sandisk class 6. The class 6 sandisk tests faster than the class 10 transcend.
