C100: Best place to purchase Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Standard Zoom Lens

I usually buy from B&H where this lens is $1749 but it is in stock at E-Infinity for $1599. How reliable is E-Infinity?

B&H is a reputed seller and I have had some awesome experiences with them over the years. Whenever there is any discount from the seller they pass it to the customers. The price difference you mention is around 8.5%. So there must be something to it.

Never bought from e-infinity but you might want to make sure they're an authorized Canon reseller if you want the full Canon warranty. That said, they're probably fine. If they're on ebay, the customer satisfaction percentage should say I lot. I've bought a few lenses from non-authorized resellers (like Tri-State Cam, for example) and never had an issue (knock on wood).

try Greentoe.com You will get it about 10% below msrp. It is legit service. Kinda like you bid for your hotel, car etc..but for your camera equipment.

I just bought my Canon 400mm DO mkii at $6500 with overnight delivery vs $7K+ from BH. it was filled by a well known canon authorize dealer. The day that we pay full price for camera lens is long gone.
Also, got my 1DX mark ii premium kit for $5700 from greentoe as well.

I think you have mixed up your terms.....there is a Canon MSRP on a lens....list price if you will.....and then there is MAP pricing....the same price all of us legit dealers sell the lenses. There is not a big markup on the lenses (like 15+ years ago). There a lot of official Canon dealers that sell DSLRs & lenses. There are less Professional Video dealers and there is a small amount of full Cinema EOS dealers. Other than instant rebates and mail-in rebates, we all pay the same price and we all sell at the same price. Any price deviations below B&H (and the rest of us real dealers) is usually grey market (many on Amazon)....the grey market items will look, perform, and seem like a legit item, many with warranty cards that look right..... but the only way you will truly know if you have a grey market item, is when you go for service at Canon, they punch in your serial number, then they and you will know what you have.
As for greentoe, they are relatively new and not a dealer, apparently a broker.....so we'll see how long they last and if MFGs will get involved. I personally would want direct backup from the dealer I bought from and be able to go into the store for some hands-on assistance.

Jim,

As a vendor, you not happy to see alternative. I get it but making false statement as grey market is just wrong. ALL of mine canon cameras and lenses WENT THROUGHT canon service center in Irvine for check up and yes, they are USA product. Adorama is one of the many vendors that full fill the order. You need me to provide the sn of the 400mm do mk ii or 1dx mkii for you to verified? I have no problem doing so.

I just got $350 MIR from canon from buying camera and printing bundle. Wow..canon must be generous to me since it is grey market eh? Scare tactics is old man.

I was not directing this at you per say but at the general retail situation. Scare tactics?...please. A question...since you are in LA, do you go into pro retail stores like ourselves, Abel, Samy's, etc? Have you ever gone into a store to touch & try this type of equipment?

No need to touch. Touching and have to pay full price plus tax in California ? No thanks. I did flew to NY twice to pick up few items from BH super store since shipping logistic is not possible for our project in Boston so yes, i've been to more professional store than Samys if that is your intention.

However, I support sponsor vendor here like Eric or Terry.

I'll make a politically incorrect statement in that, IMO, vendors participating and supporting this site ought to put some form of a promotional system for the DVXUser members. Obviously, it'd need to abide by the terms of its legal contractual obligations with the manufacturers but it would give an incentive to a lot of folks to reward those helping this site while also keeping their own budgetary concerns intact.

The price is the same with, for example, B&H and EVS and the other sponsors here...the only difference is tax. Do you know about the California Production Tax?

"However, I support sponsor vendor here like Eric or Terry."

Well, we are a sponsor here too so, again, is it the tax issue?

So you know, we have had a policy here where if a DVXuser member contacts us, and lets us know that, we have and will give special pricing where we can....lighting, grip, support, expendables, rentals, stages. On cameras & lenses, there are very tight margins and MAP pricing that we have to deal with. That being said, if there is something we can do, we will do it.

Personally, I prefer to make major purchases (lenses and cameras, etc.) from "brick and mortar" stores that are known entities with track histories and reputations to uphold (like EVS, Adorama, etc.) I live in NY, so when I can I like to walk into BH or Abelcine, talk to their staff and actually hold the product in my hand before I purchase it. I accept that these places charge a few $ more because they have a staff and rent to pay. Just my preference...

BTW I have purchased from EVS/Jim before and they have extended me discounts as a dvxuser...

That's fair enough. Business is different these days than when I was in it (though, not in pro video gear). Anyone living around the LA area should be able to name a dozen places - and I'd probably worked at half of them - that were there 10-20-30-40 years ago but have gone under since that Internet thing became popular. If I were in the market for items discussed on these forums and looking for the lowest price - after all, no one wants to pay a lot for a muffler- I'd still give the site sponsors a call and see how close they can come to what I may find at other places. And, as scorsesefan just mentioned above, it may not be an exact price match but the difference may be negligible enough to warrant the buy. Or, in some case - and I know how a retailer feels about those far-away discount places ... which, during my era, were the mail-order and membership clubs - not.

another place to get discount on Canon Lens, camera is: http://www.canonpricewatch.com Personally, i bought 3 lenses via Canonpricewatch and they are all comes from USA authorize dealer.

Again, my respond to OP regarding where he can get best price for Canon lens, i just point out alternative way to shop which you still get USA Canon Authorize product at much lower cost. As i mention before, Adorama is one of the vendor participate in greentoe program.

So if you want to pay FULL PRICE plus shipping, plus tax for a product then by all mean do it.

If you want lower price, free ship, no tax, check out www.greentoe.com or www.canonpricewatch.com

and for Jim, i support Eric and Terry because of their personality, I even paid full price when i bought my BMCC, BMPCC, C100 mkii, Atomos Shogun from Terry and FS7 from Eric.
