Best FCP Output format?

Shot a play on the HVX200 P2 (At 720p with a frame rate of 23.98) cards and edited on FCP 5.1

Now want to output at full quality for future burning to Blue ray (don't have that capability now). When I outputted I chose 720p60 thinking that was the closest to 'native' that I had. When looking at the file the image is a bit squeezed (top to bottom). Just want to make sure I did in fact export in the right format (so that i will be able to burn a proper hi def DVD in the future).

Was this the right selection?

Or should I output it as something other than that?

Thanks,

M

Export QuickTime/Current Settings/audio and video/self contained

I haven't seen any good blu-ray™ discs produced using Encore CS3 or Toast 9 in my testing.

Note: it's BLU not BLUE.

:)

Thanks david,

I did that but when checking the file that I exported in came up as and SD file (720 x 480).

I'ms till wnating to output an HD file for future use on HD media.

Thanks,
M

If exporting with current settings created an SD file, than there is a problem in your workflow. Was your timeline an HD timeline or SD timeline? Did you have to render to view/output the footage? You may have your sequence default set to DV, which is SD.

Click on your time line and press Command + 0. Check your settings. For best quality and no rendering, you should be editing on a native time line, that is, a time line that matches your footage. In this case, it should be the DVCPROHD 720 24p preset.

Once everything is correct on the timeline, all you ned to do is quicktime export with current settings (self contained), like David said.

If this does not help, please provide more information on your workflow.

As stated earlier, if your sequence isn't DVCProHD then you aren't working in HD.

Again, as suggested hit command - zero and report back what you see.

Frame size 720 x 480
Aspect ratio NTSC DV 3:2
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 /DV 720/480

Quicktime settings

DV/DVCPRO - NTSC

AUDIO

48kHz
16-bit
Default

thanks again.

Use Easy Setup to change the sequence settings to 1280 x 720 DVC Pro HD , then open a new project and drop your original footage into that project. It will now render out correctly when you
use current settings.
