Best FAST 85mm (35mm equivalent) for GH1

Already own the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 pancake and love it.

Now I need a fast prime as a portrait lens -- 85mm equivalent. I don't think Panny has anything -- not yet. And I need a lens now. So maybe I'm looking for a Nikon or Canon or Sigma or something that will work with a mount properly.

I shoot the GH1 in all-manual video mode with a set shutter speed. Then I adjust the aperture using the front dial. I'm fine with manual focus ...

Thanks for any assistance!

I have both a Canon FD 35mm f/2.0 and a 50mm f/1.4 which are both great for portraits. The 35 is more versatile and works well also for wider shots and it is on roughly 60% of the time.

Best bang for buck? 45mm f2 Contax G Carl Zeiss with adapter. The con is having a mini thumb gear for focusing.

your thread title doesnt make sense
the 35mm equivalent for 85mm is 85mm
if you want fast get an 85/1.4

Love my Zeiss ZF 85mm 1.4 & 50mm 1.4 Planars , both work for portrait just depends on your framing. Beautiful shallow DOF & Bokeh. I'm also useing a Voghtlander 40mm 1.6 Nokton
for a little wider work but at about F 2.5 and lower the Bokeh is nice, some slight vignetting.
All work great on my GH1.

Wouldn't an 85mm lens, in the 35mm film camera equivalent for the GH1, be a 42.5mm when you take the 2x crop factor into consideration?

Ahh semantics... Yes, I guess his title *could* have said "Best FAST 28 DEGREE Field of View Lens" which is the FOV available in the following combinations:
- 42.5mm lens on a 2x crop Micro Four Thirds sensor
- 85mm lens on a 1x crop 35mm Format sensor
- 53.1mm lens on a 1.6x crop Canon 7D sensor
- 56.7mm lens on a 1.5x crop Nikon D90 sensor

LOL, I speak as if I know this off by heart, but I just look it up on the Tamron Focal Length calculator for the FOV angle.

I use both a Vogtland Nokton 40mm f1.4 made by Cosina, one of the largest Japanese OEM camera and lens manufacturers. Originally Manufactured and designed in Austria and The Name and Design have been leased now to this OEM for years... A Beutiful lens for the price $399 +
$175 for M to m43 adapter. This I believe gives you a 80MM Lens with nice shallow DOF & Bokeh.

I do also have the Zeiss ZF 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.4 Planar primes.
The Zeiss 50mm comes out a bit more like 100mm and has very accurate, brite, color.
But both have a higher price tag and additional $175 for m43 adapter.

Both make very nice Portraits, I was shooting a singer in a room, during the day up against stormshutters (although shut, light was still comming through ) and lit the front wt a 1x1 litepanel and a Micro pro . and had a beautiful out of focus white cyc background.
