Best computer/software for editing?

roar.. if you have 3k to spend on a computer.. build your own or have someone professional build you a PC... a mac that costs 3k will probably be a dual core with like... 2.6ghz ... with 3k you could have a quad core pc .. and have much more power for your buck.. macs are Godly, but they are very costly... build a pc with 3k and you can make a GODLY pc.. even more godly than a mac that comes pre assembled for the same price.. ..rawr...

Actually $2800 will get you a MacPro with 2 Quad-core 2.8 (8 processors)...
The problem I've always seen with my friends that build their own machines are the funky "bugs" that they inevitably have... there is always something that never seems to work right or some strange system bug that is just something you have to work around.

These aren't usually major things... just "funky" annoyances... and those are the things I don't miss after having switched...

Windows xp media center

Windows xp media center

I currently have a dell pc with windows xp media center and want to get a better editing software. The problem that I've ran into is that most programs won't run on media center without tweaking the system, which I don't know how to do. Does anyone know of a good program that will run on media center? I have a dvx100b and have two weddings coming up. I currently use Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 for editing and it works fine for a one cam shot but we will be using multiples this year and want to go with an nle program. Right now we can't afford to upgrade the computer because we still have to buy a second cam. Also, does anyone know if there is a cam under $1000 that can be used as a stationary cam and is a comparable match to the dvx100b? Any help would be appreciated.

Computers are so bizzare. I have two mac G5s. One is an extremely heavy paper weight, quit working on me last year. The other one works, but has lock ups. The fans make it sound as though I'm next to an airport. I learned the hard way about the whole 'Macs are the bestest in the whole world' routine. They just some circuits and some fans like a pc. I'm sure mac fans are going to be upset with what I have said, but it doesn't matter. I learned first hand about them.
I have built many computers myself, and never experienced problems like the macs have given me. Last year I built a sweet system for my kid overclocked, liquid cooled (for gaming actually) for less than half the price of a mac of the same caliber. I am ordering components this week for my own computer. Goin quad core, 4gigs ddr3, gt8800 card amungst other things. For less than $1300 Sorry, I just aint got 3grand to drop on another mac. Plus, I like to play some online shoot em up gaming which doesn't jive on a mac either.

On the other hand, my buddy is a mac lover, and has a little mac laptop that runs great. And I am very happy for him. I just aint pleased with my experience. Oh, and I would never buy a dell either. My wife uses dells at work, and I have had to rebuild a few things on them to keep thier heads above water. They are loaded with useless software running in the background. Their computers are slow because of that.

Oh yeah, I have used most of the nle's out there, and I am now exclusively using Vegas! It is so straight forward and smooth, less expensive than most other NLEs. And David Jimmerson has helped me on some occasions showing how easy Vegas is to use.

Build me a MacPro that has these specs for that price, and I'll have CENSORED FOR EXTREMELY ADULT CONTENT with you for free. Regardless of weather your a man or a woman. But (highly) preferably if your a chick.
