Best Buy Pre-Orders Cancelled?

I just received an e-mail saying that there were billing problems encountered with my Canon 7D pre-order and the order was cancelled. This is really weird considering I used their own Best Buy credit card to order it (approved for way more than the cost of the camera).

Did anyone else have their Best Buy pre-order cancelled? Anyone think Best Buy may be severely delayed in getting the 7D? I really hope this isn't the case. :undecided

Yes, same story. Canceled my order due to a supposed billing problem. Ordered from Crutchfield and received the camera 4 days ago with no billing problem of course and excellent customer service. Really enjoying the camera...hope you have a better experience elsewhere.

Best Buy's lending partner for their credit card has just issued new terms. I don't think the 0% interest for 18 months thing is being offered anymore and perhaps they are allowed to renege if the item hasn't shipped yet? I am guessing this is the source of the problem.

Best Buy Reneging?

Best Buy Reneging?

I haven't received such notification (yet).

That would really suck, as I pre-ordered on 9/12 through my Best Buy credit card. I should have gone elsewhere.

Crutchfield doesn't even list the camera on their website. What's up with that?

I ordered one as well, and actually later changed my order from the kit lens, to the Body only model. Although I took the opportunity to buy a Best Buy Gift Card, and placed my order with that. My order is still valid, and can't wait until the 15th to get it.

I have my pre-order with Best Buy and haven't received a cancellation notice. Will post whether it comes through or not.

I received an email on October 2nd regarding a billing problem, but my order was not cancelled. I did use the Best Buy credit card as well.

After spending 2 hours on the phone with them, they fixed the problem. The arrival date disappeared on my order (was between 10/13 - 10/19), so I called them up yesterday to see if they knew it would arrive. They gave me the same dates, though it no longer shows up on my order.

Yep. Just went through the same conversation with a Best Buy rep. They have been having some bank authorization problems for people who pre-ordered using the Best Buy card. Although the rep said estimated delivery date was still between 10/13-10/19, the Canon 7D is now listed on backorder. This probably means I lost my "place in line" and they probably have more pre-orders than units arriving. That just me being a pessimist, though.

At least the rep was helpful, although this is completely ridiculous.

Man, what an epic adeventure this has been...

Via phone, I found a local Best Buy that had two 7Ds in stock, so I called BestBuy.com's customer service to ask if I could pick up a camera in person since my online pre-order was now back-ordered. The Best Buy rep said this should be no problem and to go to the in-store customer service counter of the local store and they would be able to work everything out.

I get to the store and let them know that I called ahead and the person I spoke to said they had two Canon 7Ds in stock. Over half an hour and three floor staff later, they come to the conclusion that they should have two in stock, but no one can find them. Having worked retail many years ago and realizing that things get lost in-store all the time, I ask them to see if any other local stores have it in stock (there are about a half dozen in what I consider driving distance). Turns out a store only 20 minutes away has one and they were able to confirm via phone. I thanked the camera sleuths I dealt with and was on my way.

Sure enough, when I get there, they have the camera waiting for me at customer service. So I explain to the rep at the counter that I already have a pre-order paid for and I want to change it from "ship to me" to "in store pick-up". The look the rep gave me was akin to "you just asked me to solve a theoretical physics problem using as many imaginary numbers as possible". I almost had to laugh. I tell them that a BB rep I had called earlier said this was entirely possible. They responded that the best option was to just go online on a store computer, cancel the order, then come back when the funds have cleared on my Best Buy card. I told them that I am somewhat familiar with credit processes and that it can usually take 24-48 hours for this to happen and someone else might purchase the cam before I could. Again, the puzzled look of the inexperienced.

I popped out the cell phone and called BestBuy.com customer service. I explained to the rep I got in touch with of the situation and asked if I could have my order converted from "ship to me" to "in-store pick-up". The rep replied that this should be do-able and to give them the info for the store I was at. I gave him the address only to get the response, "Hmmm...it appears they do not have any of these cameras in their inventory". I lightly chuckled and let him know that I was looking at one directly in front of me on the customer service counter. Regardless, he said he would not be able to update my pre-order from his end.

At that point, he recommended what the in-store customer service rep had suggested, which was to simply to cancel the order and have the funds cleared from the Best Buy card I had used. Except this excellent employee said he would be able to contact Best Buy's credit lending bank directly and get the original charge dropped so that I could purchase the camera in-store. I must have waited on hold for roughly 10 minutes, but sure enough, the rep came back online and let me know that I should be good to go.

Moments later, I had my camera in hand and I was out the door.

It's nice to know that I am finally experienced enough to work the system and not have an aneurysm while doing so. This double of bourbon may be helping, though.

They only had the kit in stock, same as the store that had two that were missing. I'm still laughing about that. I can see their manager now:

"What do you MEAN we're missing $3,800 worth of cameras??"
